General Cycling Discussion - Cell phone holder

I once saw a Ericsson( spelling?) Cell phone adv where a person rides a MTB with the cell phone attached on the handle bar.

I was wondering why isn't anyone making this into reality and mass produce it?

Usually I will put my cell phone in a bag, probably my back pack and most of the time I can't hear the ring cus of the traffic or I was just not payign attention. I think having it right in fornt of you will be really nice, like the cateye lights which are removable.

I recently picked up a cell phone belt case that holds my phone very securely. It is a nylon case. You can either use the belt slide or a caribiner (supplied) to attach it to whatever or wherever you want. It also uses a velcro strap to secure the phone inside the case. It is made by "Sentry". Best of all, it only cost $6.00.

Ah....hope yer not plannin' to use it while you ride?

I've seen a case that fits into a waterbottle holder,
although I don't know if I'd be too comfortable on
serious (technical) trails with it. For roadies that would
be fine. FYI my cellphone is my last resort when I'm
out on the road (i.e. "honey, I just flatted for the
second time, can you come pick me up?")

I carry mine in the under seat bag . Every time it rings , I look around and wonder , " What's that ? " .

Why do you need to have your cell phone on your handle bars? Are you really that important:D? I always keep it in my camel bak and it seems okay afterwards. Just buy a seat bag and stick it in thier or just put in a zippered pocket in your jersey. The only reason i carry a cell phone is so if something happens i can get help as i normally ride the trails on my own.

It's not about picking it up. It's more about knowing that someone called and better stop to check it out.

I used to miss calls whenever I have it in my bag. sometimes it takes me ages to realise that it was my phone, so having it right in front of me will be more effective... and cool:)

Can't you just check it (using the missed calls option) when you stop for a breather or what ever. I saw a guy with one the other day and it looked really naff he looked a bit of an idoit. If you did a flip or something on the bike you could wreck your cell phone aswell as your bike, it would probably double your repair bill.

I am not a heavy cell phone user. If someone calls, it means he/she has something important to tell me. So I better reply A.S.A.P.

I only carry my cell phone when I'm out on long solo rides in the countryside. I Keep it turned off, because I have no interest in receiving calls when I'm riding. I normally carry it in a zip-lock baggie in a jersey pocket.

When I was in Singapore there is only urban to ride on, so the traffic was equally noisy.

Before you judge others with cell phones too quickly, please be advised that those of us who have family members with sometimes acute medical conditions need to have them in case they are needed at a medical emergency or similar.

Not many folks have my number, and when mine rings, I can be pretty sure it is something very important requiring my immediate attention.

The cell phone is what allows me to go for long rides - instead of being tied down to my cell phone, the cell phone gives me freedom.

And I carry mine in my large JanDD bag with the side pocket just made for my size of cell phone. I can hear it just fine. I also set it on vibrate, and one time when I could not hear it I felt the whole bike vibrate, and knew it was my cp!!

Actually you would be surprised but thier are some mtb tracks in Singapore, but they are all relitivly short. I go to malaysia sometimes thier is some good stuff up thier if you know where to go. I like crusing around Singapore on my road bike, pacing myself agaisn't cars and buses, i can ussally out accelerate most cars it pisses them off. Well thats off the Topic.

Thats basically the samewith me aswell, i think at the most only 20 people know my number and only 5 of them call me reguarlly. As i can never ride for more than half an hour straight on the trail (thats the longest one), i normally know if people call me. Well the cell phone is important and its good if you have it handy, cause what if you fall off hurt your back and then can't get to your phone what do you do? well now i am being a bit morbid, i better shut up and get back to my work.

No, no, guys you misunderstood. I also carry a cell phone for emergency and in case I need my darlin' to pick me up. I am not judging you for carrying one.

I just mentioned that I saw a guy once riding and talking on the cell......so if it is on the handlebars it might...make it more inviting to talk and ride.

I thought about it once when the thing rang. I said to myself "ah I'll be ok, I am an excellent cyclist, smart, no traffic around, flat road, I can talk and move along, I'll just slow down a bit"

I told myself no to be stupid, and I stopped and answered it.

I just bring my pager, Then at my convience, I can check who called.

If you want to get really serious there is a website that offers a dynamo driven charger for your cell phone or other 12 volt accessory. So if you run your battery down using your phone on a long ride you can just charge it back up again! Such a thing might be handy on a tour for recharging your phone and rechargable batteries for lights and other devices.

On long rides, I always ride with a light back pack to carry all my tools, food, and my moms cell phone! I bring it with me, so if I crash, get kidnapped, arrested, etc. I can call her.
