Fanny and Alexander - Ingmar Bergman - Finally got to see the 5 hour version of this wonderful film. Definitely worth it.

"La Course en Tęte" - The Eddy Merckx Story - gripping drama which puts today's media-driven, SAG-supported, prima-donna headed team efforts into perspective. Interesting to note - not one single helmet to be seen anywhere… Great stuff!!

I'll try to watch the 5 hr. Fanny And Alexander again tonight. Criterion did a great job, as the visual and sound quality are fantastic.

I can't stand Bergman, which is weird because I thought I would've love him. Then I saw Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries, not my taste.

I'm going rewatch Breathless this weekend, love that movie.

Yeah different tastes, although if I remember correctly I did rank Godard somewhere above mean. Bergman does tend to shade his stories with an unrelenting darkness that does not neccesarily speak to everyone.

I only got to watch half of Fanny And Alexander last night but I'm much more than impressed with this film. There is so much that I missed the other night--the character development, the little world that Bergman creates. The cinematography of Sven Nyqvist is absolutley gorgeous. Fanny And Alexander is in its own way a more powerful film that The Seventh Seal, and much more accessible.

I'm not sure I'd recommend Scenes from a Marriage for a re-intro. Renting right? Go right to the 5hr. version of Fanny And Alexander. Its broken into several parts, and is not what it might seem--its quite unimaginable. Also it might be time to give The Seventh Seal another chance, and then there's Persona, and The Virgin Spring.

Japanese? Criterion's new release of Ugetsu is a great intro to Kenji Mizoguchi. The list that you linked to is mostly new generation. I have Miike's The Bird People Of China in the queue, but have a hard time scheduling it in. Takeshi Kitano's Zatoichi 2003 is a fantastic remake in a newish interpretation that only Kitano could dream up. Wildly popular in Japan, soon after its DVD release I had to search about ten shops in three different cities to find a copy. Its hard to recommend the Samurai genre because I know that its an acquired taste and addresses a special interest, but I grew up watching these movies and have studied Japanese Sword Arts for a decade and a half. I can't hardly even get some of my friends of Japanese descent to get into it. I have a decent collection of jidai-geki and chambara and can advise.

I just finished "Friends & Family" a story about two gay mafia enforcers (a couple), one of parents are coming for a visit. The parents know their son is gay, but have no idea he's connected

The ensuing hijinx is hilarious.

The wonderful thing is, its a "gay movie" that the 'narrows' can have fun with as well.

Kingdom of Heaven.

Hammy. Poor plot and story. Same camera angles, tricks and lighting as in 'Gladiator' and 'Black Hawk Down'. Plus Orlando Bloom looks like a total pu*sy.

We got the whole set of them a couple months ago and watch an episode or two every day. Luv 'em!

We watched The Truman Show recently. I'd never seen it before. I liked it.

Serenity (four stars) is you like sci-fi

The Transporter2 ( 1.5 stars) loved the first one...this one was just way too far fetched to enjoy. But the martial arts sequences made me give it 1.5 stars instead of zero.

South Park Season 6 (4 stars) the boys of South Park are always good for some laughs.

Watched The Ring Two last night, and it freaked me out more than the first one (which is saying something).

The night before, the wife and I watched Napoleon Dynamite for the first time. Talk about lame. I've watched state funerals that were more entertaining.

Wow Vic !
Knock me over with a feather ! On this we agree
I think ND is one of the best movies Ive ever seen. At first I thought the same thing..
Lame, too goofy etc but after the second watch It fell into the I-can-watch-it anytime
catagory. I actually think it has a deep, subtle message of hope. A very positive
movie if you want to read into it a little too deeply :roflmao:

We just saw a really deep , thought provoking movie by an indy Vermont filmmaker
that featured a discussion period afterward....a Movie slam ???? It was good stuff
though. But, I needed something a noble, lowland, bridge dwelling troll could bite on so
we followed up with Chucky 3 because Leprechan in da Hood was rented ! WTF !!!

I dunno, I'll check tonight. I want so bad to like this series, but the one samurai is SO FRICKIN' annoying!

"That's like, the bomb--man" etc, talks like Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure or something. The whole "Whoa, gnarly dude!" character gets on my nerves :crash:

btw, the music and artwork during the opening and closing credits is BRILLIANT  love that!

Yeah, I guess I just decided to totally suspend my disbelief when I watch. I actually like Mugen, tho...maybe because he's an ass. I like Fuu's character a lot, too. Jin annoys me a bit, but only because he reminds me of Caine from Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. He always knows something you don't, and I think I've seen him take a hit like, what, once, maybe!?[edit: Last episode I saw he took several hits...my bad:o] Glad you're giving it a chance.:)

One of my older brothers is obsessed with Caddyshack, so he decided to put the best soundclips from the movie onto his cell phone.

They're 50 minutes long.
