Throne of Blood - Akira Kurosawa

Did you watch the default subtitles or the Ritchie subs? I thought the original subs captured best the strong Buddhist philosophy in the opening song/chant. It really goes a long way towards setting the stage.

I watched the default subs on the Criterion version. Where does Donald Richie do subs?

I thought the commentary was by someone else (?).

btw, I ordered two of Richie's books over a month ago (Japan Journals and Donald Richie Reader), they're on backorder still.....:crash:..........:(

The option is in the menu somewhere. I have his Kurosawa book, which is an invaluable resource. I'd put TOB in the top 4 of my fav Kurosawas:

- Throne of Blood
- Red Beard
- The Men Who Tread On The Tiger's Tail
- Sanshiro Sugata

The latter two, his first two film productions, are not available in an acceptable DVD release as of yet.

Okay, I'll bite. They bumped you up to max dosages of intravenous Pheno-Barbitol, three times daily?

Everyone's so uptight that they don't comprehend humor, and you think I need that?

Shin Heike Monogatari - Kenji Mizoguchi

Great film covering the early life of Taira Kiyomori, the last great leader of the Heike, who's fall eventually signaled the end of the Heian Period.

Faster. And the bonus DVD, Faster and Faster.

Faster is a behind the scenes look at the 2002 MotoGP season. Faster and Faster is an update covering '03 & '04. Fascinating stuff if your a motorcycle racing fan. Even if your not, its still facinating.

Dragon Inn starring Brigitte Lin, Maggie Cheung, and Donnie Yen.

Maggie Cheung (In the Mood for Love) was a vivacious cutie in her younger days, while Donnie Yen (the spearsman Sky from Hero) plays an evil power hungry eunuch.

Lots of fun, highly recommended.

Hero - Zhang Yimou

Watched it for about the umpteenth time. Donnie Yen's fight sequence with the spear is more and more impressive with each viewing.

My ankle's hurting so I stayed in tonight, got the lonely man's trifecta-

Cinderella Man-pretty good so far. Ron Howard is never mind-blowing, but his movies are generally pretty solid<-this is a complement even though it doesn't sound like it.

Devil's Rejects-This movie was so incredible in the theater I had to rent it so I could watch it another 2 or 3 times.

40 Year Old Virgin-eh.

Opeth - Lamentations

Great concert - all mellow stuff in the first set (with great keyboard embellishment), all heavy crunching cookie-monster-vocals stuff in the second set. :D Opeth are the most musical metal band ever in my humble opinion.
