Kinky Boots

Interesting story about a shoe factory in Northampton England that switches from making wingtip brogues for men to spikey high heels for transvestites and cross dressers to avoid going out of business. Played at the International Film Fest here in PDX last year. Very well done.

I think it would have been interesting had it been the Brooks factory.

Brando, Howard. I haven't seen Laughton/Gable in years, and have seen Gibson/Hopkins once in the theater.

Michael Mann's 1981 "Thief". Although way too many elements were repeated in his 1995 film "Heat" to my thinking, somewhat sullying both films it still is a staggeringly thrilling experience.

This film also seems to be one of those high quality "buried by time overshadowed in it's time" films which at my suggestion evokes blank stares and the question "And who was in that"?

IMO, one of the best epics ever made. Maybe even the best. It rocks.

Black Dahlia - Brian de Palma
Hollywoodland - Allen Coulter

Two period LA noir pieces, the first a cop thriller / murder mystery / love triangle set in 1947, the second is the story of a private detective investigating the suicide (?) of George Reeves, who played the original TV Superman. Both well done.

Black Dahlia...besides the eye candy of the production values..not as good as LA confidential or The Two Jakes.

Lawrence is the best of the bunch. I've seen it many many times, but the best was when a local movie theather screened it in 1989.

I've got it in my Netflix cue now. Should look good on the 50" plasma too.

Recently

I finally finised all the BSG Dvd's

Cars (very good)
Miami Vice (the movie - not so good)

I was prepared to be underwhelmed and even dissappointed, but these turned out to be entertaining enough. Neither could come close in a critical comparison to the first two.

We watched a new Japanese film on dvd, Ash1ta no Kioku (Memories of Tomorrow), starring Ken Watanabe. A very moving film about a family's struggle with Ahlzeimer's disease.

For the title I had to substitute a 1 for an i.

Talladega Nights, The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

Not to shabby, and i dont like Nascar or Will Ferrel.

Best part of the DVD were the extras, in particular the potty mouth outtakes with the 2 kids, Walker and Texas Ranger.

The End of Suburbia.
Good documentary. If you've read Kunstler's book, "The Long Emergency", this feels almost like a companion piece. As a matter of fact, Kunstler gets a lot of face time in the documentary. Also, you must watch the two bonus extras. They're documentaries from the 1950's and are both kind of creepy and laugh out loud funny.

I didn't like it much the first time I saw it, but after watching it again i'm convinced its one of the best movie's i've ever seen. The hype probably killed it for me the first time.
