I saw House of Sand and Fog. Very well done but supremely depressing. Ben Kingsley plays a damned fine, frothing psycho.

Woody Allen - Scoop

With Scarlet Johansen. Meh. Another self-indulgent Woody Allen vehicle with a few funny jokes. The plot was so full of holes it could have been swiss cheese.

Finished the Firefly series and the followup movie, Serenity. Awesome!
Watched the live action series The Tick this week. Hilarious.

I cant believe i didnt watch either series when they were on TV. But i have to admit, i like watching TV shows on DVD. No commercials, no waiting for the 2nd part of a 2 part episode and I now have a 50" HD tele to watch on.

A bunch of Father Teds are on there way from Netflix. I love that show and have seen most of them, but i'm hoping to catch the ones i missed on BBC America.

I think i'm going to move on to a long term viewing project like Babylon 5 and Stargate SG-1 and SG-Atlantis.

Oldboy

Great movie, a must see. The DVD i got from Netflix was an Engish dub version. As good as it is i can only imagine the Korean version with English subtitles is just that much better. Im not a big fan of English dubbed foreign films. The exception being Kung-Fu movies. The dub is part of the camp value with that genre.

Is anyone who bought the Planet Earth series disappointed in the narration? I must admit, before I bought it, I was excited to get the version with David Attenborough because I thought it would make it seem more "classy" than the Americanized version with Sigourney Weaver, which I'd seen parts of on TV.

But holy cow, Attenborough's narration is really hard to follow. Not so much to me, but definitely for my son, for whom this was purchased. He and I would watch the Sigourney version, and he was rabidly interested in it. But the same show, with different narration? Nah, he can't follow along (he's 3) and so now he never wants to watch it. I didn't realize how nice Sigourney's voice was until it was gone.

I'd like to think so, but I think it's more a case that Attenborough's narration is so hard to follow/hear, especially to young ears. He's got a thick British accent, and he's an older gentleman, and he doesn't enunciate particularly well. Meanwhile, the Ripley version is nice because her speech is easy to follow.

Pretty good flicks. Its a shame they dont crank em out like this anymore. Instead we get tripe like Rush Hour 3.
