...and I began the installation procedure. The new freewheel even included the removal tool, which is excellent, since the FW doesn't work at all.

The Old 13-24 was going to be replaced with a 14-21, however I think I have an "Ultra-6" by mistake. The chain shifts off the cogs on the small cog side.

Ultra 6 and I'm screwed?,

Sounds like you got a compact 6 to replace a standard 5.3 mm c-c between sprockets fw.
Assuming you have friction shifters, the fix is adjust your limit screws to minimize rder travel. If you have indexed shifters I don't think it's going to work-at least in indexed mode. I tried an Atom 77 compact 6 (5.1 mm c-c) on a bike with SIS-6 (5.3 mm c-c) and I never succeeded in finding a cable adjustment that would let me us all 6 sprockets from the French compact freewheel on the 5.3 mm SIS.

Have you indexed shifters?

Assuming he has downtube or bar end shifters, since there was never a 6 speed STI or Ergopower, he has to adjust the derailluer limit screws to keep the chain from jumping off. If he has Shimano indexed shifters, he can set them into the friction mode and keep riding. He'll just need to adjust his shifting style a bit.

Friction, yes. Sorry about not mentioning.

This FW is wreaking havoc on my FD setup as well...

Can you tell by the listing that it is Ultra/Compact6?

Buyer beware...

Not following what kind of havoc a closer ratio cogset would bring on the FD.

Not only closer ratio, it's also 5mm closer to the centerline of the bike. Anyway, I'm onto something else and won't get to this until next week...ahh bikes.
