I need to overhaul the bottom bracket on my winter bike which is a Mongoose Switchback.
I got the bike used so I'm guessing it's one of the first ATB designs, (late 80's), due to its relaxed frame geometry. Before I tear it apart, does anyone know what size the shell is?
I'm guessing it's a 73.

Thanks!

Jim

JimWhy don't you measure it?

The spindle part is difficult to accurately measure until it's disassembled.
I was hoping someone knew before I tore into it. Turns out it's 125mm.
None of my used bb parts will fit so now it will have to remain in pieces for awhile until I can find replacement parts.

Sorry about the confusion, sydney.
I often hear "shell" referred to (incorrectly no doubt) as the whole bottom bracket unit. I understand it is technically the frame only part of the bike. Same confusion arrises from the use of the "axle" and "spindle" part of the bracket as well.

Right now I'm trying to find a 73 x 124.5 replacement spindle.
