Bicycle Mechanics - Recalling Flight Deck settings?

Hi,
when i purchased my latest bicycle, I had the dealer install the Flight Deck. I know that setting up can be time consuming in that one must count the cogs, etc.

I am still on my original battery and I don't know how long it will last.
I consulted the Service Instructions and it tells you how to set the tire circumference, chainring and sprocket teeth, but from an "All Clear".

Rather than start all over, I would like to be able to recall and write down the measurements for the next battery change, but whether or not this can be done is not evident in the manual.

Any ideas or pointers- or is it back to square one with a new battery? I suppose that if this is the case, it will cut down on the set-up for battery three since I will definitely record my measurements the second time.

Which model FlightDeck do you have?

For the 6501:


Flip to a non-CLK display and hold down button B in the back for 5 seconds or more.
Release button B and you will be presented with the bike number display. This will let you choose the bike number. You probably want number 1 which will probably already be displayed so you don't have to do anything here.
Hit button B again (but don't hold down for more than 2 seconds) and you will be switched to the tyre circumference setting.
Record this number.
Hold down B for 2 seconds and you will be switched to the gear settings.
Use momentary presses of button B (no longer than 2 seconds) to flip between each gear.
Record the tooth numbers per gear.
Hold down button B for 2 seconds and you will be switched to the rear derailleur type. This should be either 111 for traditional high-normal derailleurs or 222 for Rapid-Rise low-normal derailleurs.
Record the derailleur type number.
Hold down the B button for 2 seconds and you will be presented with the bike number display again.
Hold down the B button for 2 seconds and you will be returned to normal display mode.

The manual was for the SC-6500, but I went to check the computer and it is the SC-6501.

Thanks for the concise instructions. I was afraid to go into their recommended programming mode for fear of wiping out the data!

There's a slight correction to the procedure I originally posted. It should be pretty obvious when you go to perform it however. Basically you skip setting the time. Reread my previous post.

BTW, if you're looking for FlightDeck manuals, you can find them on Shimano's website (http://bike.shimano.com/publish/content/cycle/sac/us/en/technical_service/flight_deck.html). I've found their website to be a bit flaky lately though. A while back before they posted their manuals, I had scanned the english portion of my SC-6501's manual (http://www.neebu.net/~khuon/gallery/SC6501).

Same steps really. Just don't hit the A button at anytime otherwise it will change things. And of course don't hit the AC button either. ;)

You might want to write down the odometer mileage too, before removing the battery.
