I get tired of the same old bike route. I like to change it around, explore other areas. Keeps it interesting.

All my experience with trying other routes has made me somewhat knowledgable. Now I can often just look at a sidestreet and tell you if it actually goes anywhere, or where it does end up.

All in all, my journeys have convinced me of one truth: there is more than one way to skin a cat! (I am glad most motorists passing through don't know where any of these sidestreets go. I'd rather leave them in their misery, figuratively speaking, of course, so I can have the quiet roads mostly to myself.)

I am always amazed when I detour up a sidestreet to find that a whole new world exists.

We can pass the same area every day and never know the interesting places that exist just metres away.

On a bike, we can explore. Car drivers will never experience that kind of thing. They're too busy trying to force their way through traffic to get to their destination.

Alternate routes are a great way to relieve the monotony of the ride. My commute would be a straight six miles, except for the alternate routes, that afford me double and triple the mileage, I can get a 50 mile day in easy.
I was a bit perplexed the other day, as my alternate was rather busy, I tried to figure out what the attraction was, there are no houses, no shops, malls, or anything, but it was busy, and I'd taken it to avoid traffic. I had as much traffic as if I hadn't bothered.
