After about 10 years waiting for one to happen nearby, I *finally*
took the LAB Road 1 Class today at the REI store in Denver. The LCI
is a friend of mine so that made it convenient. 14 people
participated of which about half will go on to take the LCI training
in Denver next month.
Almost all of the cyclists who participated are very experienced,
and several are familiar with Forester. One guy said he asked
for "Effective Cycling" when he was thirteen years old, got it, and
read it cover to cover.
We had one absolute newbie, a young woman who got on a bike for the
first time in ten years last week. She took the class because she
wants to bike commute to work, and I think she's getting a great
start. The road she wants to commute on, though, is Woodman Road in
Colorado Springs between I-25 and Academy Boulevard. This interchange
she uses has an ADT in excess of 100,000. It's an extremely challenging
interchange even for the experienced cyclist.
I put photos from the class on a web page at:
http://longmont.50megs.com/Road1Class/
I put 18 photos on that one web page, and each photo ranges from 30
to over 90 kbytes in size. The sum of the photo file sizes is
something like a megabyte, so if you have a dialup connection your
download will take a little while.
A sample of the photos is attached to this message. The second photo
of the guy in the tan pants is Bicycle Colorado (http://www.bicyclecolorado.org/) executive director Dan Grunig.
