Mountain Biking - Confortable sadde for MTB

Hey all,

I've just recently gotten into MTB with the purchase of a used bike (frame is essentially new, good high end components as well)...
The problem is that I have been a completely lazy slob for the past 8-10 years and have thus become fat.

This bike has a competition style seat (specialized) that has no padding...took it out today and thought that I might have just given up my chance at having kids after the ride!!! :eek:

I am looking for a nice comfy mtb saddle with lots of padding....

OH...I don't want to pay a fortune either...

Go back to the Specialized shop and peruse their selection.

You need to break in your butt to bike seats, before that happens no seat will feel comfortable.

Getting a huge, overpadded saddle is a mistake in my opinion, it adds weight, and gets your butt accustomed to the strange design that places your weight in a different place. And they look dumb. :P

No such thing as a "mountain bike" saddle with lots of padding. Specialized is known for making one of the more comfortable MTB saddles on the market but I didn't really like their offerings. I prefer the WTB Rocket V but there's still only a limited amount of padding.

You're really just going to have to get used to riding on the proper type of saddle (there are a plethora of reasons to do so but I'm too tired to explain them) so you might as well stick with what you have for now.

I went through several saddles, the SDG Bel Air I use now works very well..I have a boney @$$ and it has a bit of padding and has held up to wear quite well. I will purchase a new saddle from them when the time comes.

I used to ride road alot (still have the Trek carbon bike)...and thus I know that it takes time to get used to it...I just thought there would be some nice alternatives...I couldn't care about weight to be honest...confort is my goal for the next few months....

Naw...but I do like it.

don't forget to make sure the saddle has good positioning this makes a big difference
