with a skill I have spent a long time trying to achieve, but failed...I use the word 'skill' because I don't know a name for it. What I am refering to is when you ride up a slope, then freewheel backwards before flicking the front round and riding away feeling smug. If you have no idea what the hell I'm on about - well I don't blame you, but the elite few who do (and I bow down to you) could you please give me some tips on this.

btw, I have looked at all the sites I know, but they don't cover this...

Thank you very much for any help you can give!

ok, I THINK I know what you are talking about............You need a spacer in your cassette, drop your chain into the spacer slot so you dont have to pedal back wards, then up/down shift for gears, you can buy spacers for it, or you can make one out of pvc forcheap.......

erm, not quite, I think you have misunderstood what I meant by 'backpedalling' - I meant letting the cranks spin backwards as you roll back, not applying force to pedal backwards...any more ideas!?
Thanks anyway though...

You are trying to learn to ride fakie.

Do you want to have to backpedal or are you looking for a solution so you don't have to backpedal?...(there are mods so you don't have to be forced to backpedal)

beyond that there is no tutorial. You ride backwards, your steering is reversed, to spin you lock the rear brake and pull up and left or right and spin 180 degrees...

I can't actually do what you are talking about (i wish i could), but i've seen in done millions of time. Basically you just ride backwards, then turn the handlebars in the opposite direction you wnat to spin and lock the rear brakes. Let the front wheel come up and then twist your body and the bike around and ride away.

Get the fakie part down first.

Find a not too steep hill, roll backwards down it. At first put your legs out to the side, and try to go a ways without touching either down, steer a bit. Then start putting your feet on the pedals and matching the speed of the pedals.

Once you have that part down, and are comfortable riding backwards and stuff, then work on twisting around.

The way i do it is roll backwards pedal backwards a few feet then i turn the bars in the opposite direction i want to spin then flick them the way i want to go and turn my body with it.

I have also been told by friends that sitting down riding backwards is much easier but not for me.

It seems easier for me to sit down also.

I tried that turning the front around, but my pos brake didn't lock up fast enough. I need to lube and adjust them...

try locking your cranks instead of using your brakes
