Hi, I just joined the forums this morning. I live in the beautiful town of Bend, Oregon. I'm re-entering the world of cycling after more than ten years away. Right now I'm looking for a good commuting bike, and have been looking at the Trek X500. It looks like a winner, but I'm not an expert on components, materials, etc. so I welcome anyone's input. You can email me at j_a_mills@hotmail.com if you would like to give me further advice.

More about me: I'm 35 years old and have been in the "fat-and-lazy" club for too long. As a young lad I used to ride a Sears ten-speed everywhere--and I lived in an area with some loooooong uphill rides. Back then I had pretty strong legs. Anyway, I'm working on getting back into shape and eventually will get a dedicated road bike, with which I plan to ride in some Centuries as well as the Cycle Oregon event. I'm hoping for 2006 on the Cycle Oregon thing. That's about it. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hey Commutist, welcome aboard from another newbie, I've been out of road riding for around ten years but plan on getting back into it as deep as possible. I want to make it over to your area this summer some time to do some riding, I've heard its awesome over there. Cycle Oregon in 2006 is on my list of To Do's as well, see ya then.

Hi Ya Communist,

Welcome to the board and I'm right there with you as you already know. Sams great too, he's already pointed me a couple of good directions. Am I wrong or are we all mid 30-somethings? At any rate looks like we all are planning to get some miles in this year.
I envy you though, Bend is gorgeous!

Hello again, Commutist. Cycle Oregon sounds like fun, but who knows if I'd ever be able to take that kinda time off of work (we're allotted 12 days of PTO, which includes sick time).

While you guys wallow in your 30's, I'm 23 :B I'll get there in a while :P
