Any type of flat skate shoe works great for me. Vans is the only brand I buy but there are many to choose from. Heres a good one from 661:

I wear 661 Approaches, hard wearing, cheap, and very grippy, lots of people over here in the uk choose the 661 clip in pedal over the vans one, I suppose the price of them just cant be argued with!

I also use a set of Duffs when my 661's are wet

I've yet to find a better shoe, I like to have ankle support, so the Nike ACG Hikers work great for me. http://mirror.altrec.com/images/shop/photos/ACG/17796_m.jpg

I have some old Globe skater shoes I wear if I'm not using my eggbeaters.

For clip shoes I wear Sidi Dragon SRS's.

Cheap skate shoes i got on sale at a deparement store. I got two paris for the price you'd pay for a brand name pair, if not less. BEst shoes ive ever had for riding. Comfortable, well padded and supported and best of all, honeycomb style sole which means the pedals stick to them like glue. Also look better than a lot of brand name shoes.

I was using my Asics which were great, but now they are worn. Mine are a different colour in the pic.

So i am starting to use my skate shoes, which don't provide as much grip as my Asics did.

old shoes that have been retired from running either asics or mizuno. somtimes i do a little jumping or hucking in the driveway ( i put a little wooden ramp at the top of a retainer wall and it's got a sloped landing. it's about 6ft of sweetness biggest drop that i have done) which btw i wear my vans when i do that, they grip the best but i don't wear them on the trail because i don't want to get them mest up.

Funny how things go full circle.

In 1990, I rode in bike shoes and clipless pedals. I looked very different because everyone else was in sneakers.

When I stopped riding in 1995, even people on paved bike paths wore bike shoes.

In 2005 I ride in bike shoes and clipless pedals. I look very different because everyone else is riding in sneakers.

:)

I'm currently wearing Sidi Bullets.

I bough some DC bmx shoes and i figured they would work well just for grip on the pedals and they are awsome. They are called DC lyrics.

I bought two pairs of Dickies skate shoes at Big 5 cause they were on sale and had a nice hard sole with decent grip. So far they are working perfectly.
