I have just sent a e-mail to the race director of the Tour des Lacs 100K, Fenton, MI. If any of you benters race and want to do this 100K road race I suggest you contact the race director and ask for a recumbent category to join in the racing fun.

Dear Sir or Madam,
I notice that this year for the 100K Tour des Lacs road race on 7/30/05 that you do not have a recumbent category.
May I suggest that you allow recumbents to race in the 100K in a separate "recumbent" category. Recumbent racers will be thrilled to participate in your event if you allow them the opportunity to race fellow recumbent riders.
Local USCF time trial organizers where I reside will allow recumbents to participate in a separate recumbent class. Perhaps you will consider the same.
Recumbents should not race traditional bicycles as both are completely different platforms. It is not fair competition to allow a recumbent with fairings to go head to head with traditional USCF regulation bicycles. I can understand why some of the of your participants will not want a recumbent to race the Tour des Lacs. However I believe recumbents can race in your event if they are allowed to have a recumbent class.
Prize money is of NO concern for any recumbent racer. The thrill of racing on your 100K course will be plenty of a reward.
Sincerely,
Spuds McDoogle
