Bicycle Mechanics - Front Derailleur Cable Guide

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. 1999 GT XCR-4000......Does anybody know where I can get a new cable guide for my front derailleur. The cable guide is a black plastic piece of crap that's under my bottom bracket (I-drive) and the cable has just about cut it in two. I know GT went "bye-bye" and the LBS here don't have anything like it so I may have to improvise something if I can't find the guide. If I do find it I will definitely get a whole bunch 'cuz they don't last long. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks all.......
It is a common replacement part. Any good LBS should have them or be able to order one. I think they are less than $5.00 USD.
A Mickey Mouse fix would be to thread a small piece of Outer Derailleur Cable --preferably with a teflon lining-- through the area that's worn. Re-thread your cable through this piece, attach it to FD and then adjust it for proper clearence at the smallest and largest Chainrings.
It's a rather simple fix, but you might want to replace the original cable guides when you are able to locate one. Good Luck!
Where is the "Middle Of The Pacific?" Are you in the military?
I was thinking of doing something like that with the outer cable sheathing but will try to hunt down the cable guide first. Thanks for the reply.....will look on the 'net for it. I'm located in Hawaii and am not in the military. Got to get my bike ready for our "Century Ride" in September.....it's a long way off but I procrastinate a lot. Thanks again..........JimB
