last night I was out riding for about 1/2 hour, and it had been raining all day,(but it had stopped) anyway while I was out riding, a motorist intentionaly drove through a huge water puddle and splashed me and my bike full of dirty water, I saw him turn down the next street and he probably thought I was going to go home, but instead I turned around and followed him, I found his SUV in his driveway and I stopped and wrote down the address of this idiot and his plate # and I rode to the local police station ( about 10 minutes away) and told them what had happened and I gave them the info that they needed and then I left, I doubt anything will be done, but you never know. I was kind of hoping hte driver when seeing me write down his info would start to follow me to see where I was going, and he would have found himself at the police station.
Is there a law about motorists intentonally splashing pedestrians or cyclists?

Wow, no kidding. Hate to say it but back in the old days, we definitely knew how to handle situations like this. Of course, I feel bad about it now that I am all grown up though. :D

Well, while boating you're responsible for any damage your wake does. Maybe they can relate it to your experience.
Last week there was a large amount of standing water on a street I was riding. An SUV was coming the other way so I stopped to let it through so I wouldn't get soaked. To my amazement, the driver stopped, flashed his lights, and waved me through first.
Sometimes they DO have clues...

I'm at a 4-way stop sign. Cop happens to be sitting to catch go throughs. I stop to wait my turn,go through and the car waiting to go to my right starts before i'm half way through and just misses my rear. I look up and the cop and he's looking and saw it and did nothing. I road by him and stuck out my arms, turned up my palms and looked at him. He smiled.

This happens to me at least once a year. Impolite and infuriating, yes, but illegal? I doubt it. If you're riding after a rain, you will get wet. Be ready for it. Also, get over it!

Welcome to car culture land... the land of CHiPs, where the motor car is king. Cop probably thought you were lucky to not be hit.

You should have left that part out. Sounds like he had the right of way. Though I don't know all the details. It may have been the reason the cop just smiled. That or maybe he was lazy. At least you're still in one piece.

Not an issue with me. We have soooo many good days for riding each year, I just put the bike on the trainer if rain is threatened.

Had it been me, I most likely would have found his garden hose, threaded it into his vehicle, then turned the water on. Then laugh quietly as you pedal away.

I too, doubt whether anything will be done, since rarely is being a jerk illegal. Not really a police matter.

There is here too, unfortunately, you better grab a witness if you want anything to happen out of it. Otherwise it's your word against his.

I will barely ever call the police anymore. They are worthless. They even gave me the information on the wrong guy in a car when I got assaulted. So now I just take care of stuff myself.

Even that is pushing it. No "rights" were violated. Sure, it was inconsiderate, but like someone else said: you ride after a rain, there are going to be puddles, and you are probably going to get wet. That's part of cycling! Be ready, or just plan not to ride for a few days after a rain. I don't write to City Hall when I get splashed while in my car, why should it be any different for a cyclist? Same road, same rules, same rights

How do you know it was intentional? Did they give you 3ft of passing room, do you expect more when there are puddles around? Did the swerve toward you to hit the puddle, if so from where?
I expect to get wet when I ride in or after the rain. Its part of the fun.

nother, I expect there too be puddles, but the jackass could have at least slowed down for 5 seconds while he passed me, it's called courtesy.

Yes, it's the law of stupidity. It seems to affect a certain percentage of the population.
Once while walking to work in the rain, I had avoided being splashed until I was at the door of my workplace. But a driver hit a gullywasher at just the right moment. I put my umbrella sideways to block the "wave." The wave went over the top of my umbrella instead and came down on me from above. Soaking wet, hair and all.
I was so pi$$3d at that guy, and so wet, I threw my open umbrella in his direction as a social statement to the other drivers behind him.

Great job, but I don't think they can do anything for ya. :(
I had a woman cut me off while riding, then proceeded to scream at me and tell me I was lucky she didn't run me down anyway because she does it all the time. I got her license and called the police, and they told me without witnesses, they couldn't do anything. :(

In South Carolina, any citizen can swear out a warrant if he/she witnesses an illegal or threatening act on our roadways. The perpetrator might beat the charges, but they'll have to go through the hassle of appearing in court... which is about as effective as a conviction IMHO.

Thankfully, I havne't had any of the problems mentioned above. I do however get the rude teenagers pulling up from behind me, hanging out of the pickup or car and screaming at me as they pass. What is up with that? Do they not understand how dangerous to a cyclist that is?

You know, I used to run with pepper spray to keep loose dogs at bay. Seems I may now have to stick it in my jersey for the two legged animals as well!
