In search of a missing cat I road out a few miles to the local recycling centre on rumours of a possible siting.

The pot-holed road wasn't too bad but once I got close to the yard I discovered the only way forward was cycling over large areas of broken glass. To get into the yard I had to ride over what looked like a shingle beach made up of broken green, white, brown and blue glass - As the lorries came in they had to go over a hump which obviously meant they lost a little of their load. To get to the office meant cycling through clay lined puddles where you couldn't see the bottom.

Not fun at all, Still no punctures but there is a deep cut in the central tread that I'll need to keep an eye on.

Richard!

The merest hint of a road surface in conditions you describe, would have me off the bike, pick it up and carry it until i was well clear of such conditions

If you are anything like me, it would be worth a hundred punctured tires to get my kitty back!

It has been my experience that, given enough time, cats will rot as well.

Hope kitty comes home soon. Cats wind up in the strangest places and really I do believe have 9 lives. Well at least 2. I know from experience.

Do the taxes over there in the UK go to fund the road system. It doesn't seem like it. And is your kitty white with brown spots on it's back? Theres this stray which always comes by my apartment, althought it is unlikely that your cat made it's way across the Atlantic ocean.

I should have got off the bike and walked. As well as the cut in the tread, when cleaning it on Sunday I'd missed one in the sidewall - I think it's a new tyre. Oddly the front didn't acrue any damage at all. Still no cat :(

Well, seeing the condition of the place, do you think a cat will want to go near it?

My dog disappeared one night many years ago.

Oddly, two semi-feral ginger cats live out there, fed by the workers. It seems I got a cut up tyre on a case of mistaken identity.

I am not too sure if a cat can find his/her way home, but if a dog doesn't come home. something must have happened it him/her.
My dog was free to run about the neighbourhood. Sometimes he doesn't come home but will always return to "check it out" in the afternoon. 3 days after he disappeared and did not return home, we knew there must be something wrong and searched everywhere but no news. Home was definitely different without him ever since.

Hope you will find your cat
