so, kryptonite finally delivered (3 months later) a new, orange-and-black EV Disc Lock for my new york chain. Meanwhile, i had bought an American Lock that I have been using with comfort for the last few months. The question is, should I switch? which is safer and/or better? The nice thing about the American is that it's lighter, plus I don't have to have the key in to relock it; it's a simple click. what do you lovely guys and gals think?

I'm in the same situation. I've decided on the "if it ain't broke then let it be" school of thought. Leave the krypto in the box it shipped in and sell it on eBay. Needing to have the key engaged in order to lock is a pain in the a$$.

I'm sticking with my American. I saw someone trying to steal a bike by hammering one, and a half hour later he still didn't have the bastard open.

why didnt you stop him lol
which is better, american or multilock?
the american should be much easier to pick. i'd keep the new disc lock.

I kind of wonder about that new krypto disc style barrel. It doesn't *look* very secure. Anyone know how difficult it is to pick?

Not wanting to go off topic, but aren't American now owned by Masterlock? I tried to buy an American lock and was told this. Anyone know? Have not had good experiences with Masterlocks at all.

I did yell at him, but the guy had a hammer and was bat**** enough to steal a bike in broad daylight. I didn't need that thing lodged in my skull.
i am in the same boat and stuck with the american because it's easier, but there is a tool designed speciffically to pick that lock so i don't think its safer than the new ev disk.

I use one of these for my chain right now:

I'm concerned that it might be vulnerable... Whats the absolute strongest padlock on the market?
Check into Medeco padlocks. They make some fairly boastful claims, and have a bizarre "angular" key cut. Apparently more difficult to pick. I walked into a local lock shop and asked the guy behind the counter which lock he was using on his motorcycle parked outside. He offered up the medeco. I paid $125 but it gets used on my bike and motorcycle when they're out of the house. No problems in 3 years.
