Greetings guys,
I was just wondering if it was possible and sane to create a single speed cross bike with a suspension fork?

Thanks
-Peter

How do you jump logs with a sus fork? As you lift the front to clear the obstacle, the fork expands.

You could always run a 26" front wheel. Bit of a frankenstein, but it would work.

I'm guessing the same way mountain bikers jump logs?

push down to compress the suspension before lifting the front. The upward spring of the fork gives you a bit of a boost, too. As darkmother said, the same way that mountainbikers do.

You could try a Marzochi '29er mx comp fork, I did and it's a done deal.

What wheelset did you use?

Thanks

It has absolutely nothing to do with cyclocross

Yeah, I guess you'd better sell your bike.

Peter- My quandry is: if you're going to put a suspension fork on your cross bike, why not go all the way to a mountain bike? Questions of genre asside, what are you hoping to gain? I mean no criticism by this question - as a newbie, I simply seek to understand.

Cannondale XR800... they dont make them anymore, because there was little demand, now if you can find a silk road, you basically have the same bike, less canti brakes. So you're limited to 28c tires. Not that it is a bad thing... just not going to handle well in sandy loose conditoins.
I can't wait to get the Jake to the trails!

I am a newbie too to cycling in general..
I still have yet to discern what goes where... so that's why I asked the question... possbility and functionality...

I've bought a road bike and now am thinking of a second ^^

Cyclocross seems to do it for me as a rainy day and terrain bike... I don't do hucks or stunts

simplyred... a cyclo-cross bike can be whatever you want it to be. it can have 26" wheels and flat bars or disc brakes and suspension or moustache bars and a fixed gear or 700c wheels and aero bars or panniers and a pogo seatpost or two wheels or one or three.

cyclo-cross is whatever you want to call cyclo-cross. commuting is cyclo-cross. mountain biking is cyclo-cross. touring is cyclo-cross. bmx is cyclo-cross. grass track racing is cyclo-cross. road cycling is cyclo-cross.

cyclo-cross is anything you want to do with any bike. or without a bilke at all.

thus any bike is a cyclo-cross bike and anything that you do, including creating a single speed cross bike with a suspension fork, is cyclo-cross.

hope that clears everything up.
