Cyclocross - Crossbike with supsension...Possible?

I was just wondering if it was possible and sane to create a single speed cross bike with a suspension fork?

yep - sr suntour make a 700c fork there are other manufacturers as well. Google 700c suspension.

How do you jump logs with a sus fork? As you lift the front to clear the obstacle, the fork expands.

You could always run a 26" front wheel. Bit of a frankenstein, but it would work.

push down to compress the suspension before lifting the front. The upward spring of the fork gives you a bit of a boost, too. As darkmother said, the same way that mountainbikers do.

You could try a Marzochi '29er mx comp fork, I did and it's a done deal.

Peter- My quandry is: if you're going to put a suspension fork on your cross bike, why not go all the way to a mountain bike? Questions of genre asside, what are you hoping to gain? I mean no criticism by this question - as a newbie, I simply seek to understand.

Cannondale XR800... they dont make them anymore, because there was little demand, now if you can find a silk road, you basically have the same bike, less canti brakes. So you're limited to 28c tires. Not that it is a bad thing... just not going to handle well in sandy loose conditoins.

I still have yet to discern what goes where... so that's why I asked the question... possbility and functionality...

thus any bike is a cyclo-cross bike and anything that you do, including creating a single speed cross bike with a suspension fork, is cyclo-cross.
