It has taken me far too long to reach this point - and I'm not quite done with it, but it is now back in action. It served me rather well on a 31-miler yesterday - kept up pretty well with a stronger rider on a really sweet Masi. This relegates the Super Course to back-up status.

Wow! Where'd you get that bike?

Sew-ups? The $9 ones from nash?

Followed up on a failed e-bay auction back in December. I'm almost ashamed to say how little I paid. The bike was absolutely filthy when I got it though, so it was hard to tell what shape things were in under all the crud.

Shhh! The Other Guy might hear and ridicule me for putting on the el-cheapo tubulars. There aren't many all-black sew-ups to be found (that is what it came with originally), so I wasn't going to break the bank on the first set I will ride. They aren't glued on yet - yesterday's voyage was on a set of 1-1/4 Michelin clinchers. Now NEXT week...

Near as I can tell, 1973. I have the original Primus pump (needs a new gasket though) - just not on there yet. It mounts to the downtube, as per the catalog, but that's where I like my bottle cage. The length of it makes mounting on the seat tube awkward, so I'm contemplating mounting it under the top tube.

Thanks - but you'd have reached a similar result months ago.

Tres nice! Sounds like quite a bit of work... I try to find them nice and just stick parts on them, like to get 'em on the road.

She's a 'beaute! Can I ask how much $ was required to do such a stunning restoration?

Thanks guys. If you come and visit, I'll let you take it for a spin. :)

All told "Phantom" cost about $150.00 to restore - not including the dremel set I used this as an excuse to get. I put about 200 hours of work into it - but about a third of that was undoing my own mistakes. Believe it or not, everything on there is original except for the bar tape, cabling, tires, toe clips (and straps obviously), and a rear wheel's worth of spokes and nipples. I was amazed at what persistence and elbow grease can accomplish. I'd be much remiss if I didn't give credit to Jay (the proprietor of my LBS) for his tips and encouragement, and to T-Mar for passing along the catalog picture. I do have another one somewhere that shows this model with the bar-cons.

I saw one of these chained to a post in Jackson Hole last fall. Rigged up as a fixie, but with the original brakes and cranks. I asked around but could never identify the owner...the decals and paint weren't nearly as nice as yours, though. Sometimes all of that dirt acts as a protective coating!

Very fine work! Thanks for taking the time to post the pics. Is that a "Belt" fujitsu leather saddle?

Noah, I'm not sure. All it says on it is Fuji Seamless. I'm relatively certain it is original, as I can't imagine someone putting something that uncomfortable on as a replacement. :p

I need to correct something from a few posts back. The chain and the brake hoods are replacements too (not like I'm putting this in a show to be judged or anything).
