General Cycling Discussion - Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's bike.

I'm not trying to poke fun at any Christians here as much as I'm trying to deal with the longing looks that I find myself giving towards bikes I see while out and about lately.

Just today while at work, I had to walk from our building to an annex building that has a parking lot between the two. Anyway I spot a car with a bike on a rack and of course I make time to go over to investigate. It was a nice looking Lemond road bike with many extras.

It almost gave me a sad feeling, like seeing a dog locked up in a car. I realize that this is pretty goofy but when I fall for something, it's usually head over heels. I hope I didn't just describe my next crash.

Actually, thou should indeed judiciously covet quality machinery. Penance though must be paid exclusively at a bike shop.

Had such a similar feeling today. I rode early, did my two bridges into the head winds and spent the rest of my day shoveling mulch. Today I was working on a beach front property that sees much bike traffic. All the nice rides came by and I did the same gaze....frame, shoes/pedals and then the rider.
Do you think any one of them went by and thought... "wow, nice shovel." ?

You do not want to know what is parked in front of the building where I work. I don't look real hard because I can't afford something like it right now. There's a lightspeed, leader, and sometimes another road bike. Then there's usually at least one specialized ATB, and sometimes a cannondale. Beautiful eye candy, all outside. And a few beaters as well (one of them is mine, ugilfied with two rolls of reflective tape, a rack, and duct tape on the seat).

I just try to be happy with what I've got. It works. :)

This is funny cause there are time when I pass a bike in the car only to get the cold sholder form my wife for the next couple of miles. Only to relize she is upset because she thinks I am looking at the female rider on the bike. When she asks I can tell her what frame and wheel set the bike had, sometimes Campy v Shimano. Any ride discription ???

Along with cycling, I love gardening. Had I been riding by, I think I might have been wowed by the MULCH. Sick, isn't it?

Yesterday I shoveled 10 yards of compost! You would have loved that.
Tomorrow I install a hydrangea hedge and new perennials for the English garden.
I'll be oogling the bikes again.

You should see the drools and slobbering I get over my bikes....I'm used to it...and I carry a quantity of j-cloths

That's not it for me. Every bike is nicer than mine! And my bikes are OK for now.
I'm just so curious!

The only people that ride bikes to work (excluding one of my guys) are the exchange students that can't get anything else. There is one bike that probably cost $10 at the pawn shop with a flat tire.....I mean that thing has been ridden while flat for many miles. I'm guessing the tires are at least 15 years old.

We are thinking of bringing a tire to work and changing it for the owner.

I'm not a road guy, but a couple guys have been parking their rides inside the commons during meals the last couple of weeks that I've defnitely noticed. There's a Specialized (M4?), a Bianchi, and an Abici. I wouldn't mind casually strolling out the door with that sleek black Abici.
