My wife bought a big bag of key limes, so I was squeezing some into a glass with ice, and I poured tequila into the glass, but it was too concentrated, so I grabbed the nearest beverage - lemon/lime Gatorade, and added it on top of the lime juice and the tequila, it was a good thirst quenching "sports margarita". Tasted better than the commercial margarita mixes you get, which have ethylene glycol in them to do God-knows-what. Keep your blood from freezing I guess.

someone correct me if i'm wrong but isn't it dangerous to mix alcohol with gatorade? it could be an urban legend, but someone told me that it can damage your stomach lining. don't know how or why though....

Has to be an urban legend. Gatorade is sugar water, with a little salt, a very little potassium, a little flavor / color.

I'd rather not use these ingredients in my beverages:

water, sucrose syrup, glucose-fructose syrup, citric acid, natural and artificial flavors, salt, sodium citrate, monopotassium phosphate, ester gum, sucrose acetate isobutyrate, yellow 5

The urban legend was, I believe, some kid chugged grain alcohol mixed with gatorade and the gatorade caused the alcohol to get absorbed into his system too quickly and it killed him. At least that's the version that was circulating around back in the 80s.

So we just mixed our grain with grape koolaid and chugged away.

You forgot the most important thing- What brand of tequila was in it? If I'm going to duplicate your experiment, I at least need to do it accurately.

Sorry, it wasn't very good tequila... some variety of Cuervo... clear stuff, not amber.

In my experience, Gatorade does not make a good frozen margarita, but it does OK
as a mixer for margs on the rocks. I think it's not bitter enough for a good taste... too sweet.

If in a pinch, gatorade works OK, but I had better results using the powdered mix,
and keeping the mix on the strong side...
