I live in Berkley and am just getting back into the sport with a bunch of newbie friends. We rode out at Island Lake (http://www.mmba.org/trails.php?trail=1) last weekend and it was nice and dry. They have two loops and both are good for beginners. You should get familiar with the Michigan Mountain Biking Association (http://www.mmba.org) website. It has a lot of good links and a great trail guide (http://www.mmba.org/trails.php?sid=3e123fe415398aacd43b818ea9213c12).
