Probably the worst movie ive ever seen. (I havent even seen the whole thing!) We are watching it in CWC (college world cultures).

Really I mean come on, first of all other than the matrix and possibly devils advocate he is a horrible actor. Also the guy that goes into the house with the monk that is finding the reincarnation has the weirdest facial expressions.

It was weird when the women was gicing birth to Buddah, and she was like siging and she was hanging fromt eh tree, and finally the baby spoke and when the baby was walking the flowers grew. It was Hilarious, its the worst computer animation ever. Keanu looks pretty women like when he cuts his hair, that part was pretty funny.

Over al it was more funny that I think it was intended for it to be! :D

God forbid you get past the bad acting at catch a another culture. Maybe not the best glipse possible, but good none the less. Remember - this is about myth and philosophy, as well as Buddhist beliefs.
I didn't find it all that bad since there is a history of Buddhism in the movie, and when it came out I think a lot of sprout-eating, looking-for-meaning, LA power suits were trying to find something beyond themselves in their black marble countertop lives. So for 90 minutes, Keanu did what he could. The Four Noble Truths, the visions in the forest, the Bodhi tree - these are all central concepts in a nice basic approach to Buddhism for most westerners.
Maybe you should read "Siddartha" by Herman Hesse instead. Two birds, one awesome stone.

I thought it was an okay film. I think Bertolucci's decision to bookend it with the "modern day tale" was wrong. He should've just told the story of Gautama.

I have studied a good deal of Buddhism, if anything it is interesting. I also admire the Dalai Lama and am opposed to the current Chinese "occupation" of much of Tibet.

There's a lot of good material out there if you're interested hi65. I would suggest Kundun and Seven Years in Tibet. Any hollywood rendition of a worthwhile story is going to be less than perfect.
