Classic & Vintage - Fuji Hierarchy

Your Fuji looks like mine except for color, mine is mostly white with a little purple. The bike is in good shape expect for the Ukai front rim. It has a couple of deep cuts in the rim where the brake pads touch. I can't figure out how the cuts were made. Am I going to be able to replace the rim with a new one, or they no longer made?

If they run lengthwise with the rim, then it picked up a rock and cut the rim like a grinder. If they run across the rim, I have no idea.,,,,BD

The cuts are across the rim, not running along the length. I would like to replace the rim if possible. It's a Ukai 700Cx25 rim with bladed spokes.

I have two Club Fuji's! Identical tubing, paint color, and components. They are a few centimeters different in size, but both in my range. Both are VALite quad butted "1769". Which one should I build? Decisions, decisions......:D,,,,BD

what sizes do you have and what size fits you best? i have a club that i am deeply enamoured with but is probably a size or so too large. I am planning on just riding it anyway, but perhaps if you have what i need and i have what you need we could arrange a frame swap?

The larger one is a little rusty, but still salvageable. I think I will be building the smaller one though. It's the one in the picture. Paint is a little nicer. It will be very nice with some Cyclone M-II.,,,,BD

I've come up empty-handed searching the web for data from the late 70s - early 80s Fuji catalogs.
I'm curious about the hierarchy of Fuji models then (particularly touring bikes) and what tubing was used in them. I have my eye on a Del Rey and heard that it was in the middle to upper range of Fuji touring bikes 25 years ago. I'm grateful for any insight into these questions. So, for 1985...

The Fuji sport touring lineup in ascending order is: Regis, Allegro, Sagres, Espree, del Rey.

The Fuji touring lineup in ascending order is: Touring Series III, Touring Series IV, Touring Series V.

The Fuji racing lineup in ascending order is: League Fuji, Club Fuji, Team Fuji, Fuji Opus III, Fuji Professional, Fuji Track.

The Fuji mountain lineup in ascending order is: Fuji Sundance, Mt. Fuji, Mt. Fuji Ltd.

The Fuji hybrid lineup in ascending order is: Fuji Boulevard and Fuji BLVD XC.

The Fuji youth bike is: Fuji Junior.

Remaining Fuji bike I'm not sure how to classify: Fuji SJ-10

Great stuff! I noticed your image was from an ebay site and will probably disappear soon so I am just replying with an uploaded version of the same picture so it will hang around longer.

I bought a Fuji America in the Fall of 1982 for just over $700. It was a gorgeous two-tone blue with partially chromed fork and stays. It was also fairly light for a touring bike. It had a Sugino touring triple, DiaCompe brakes, Nitto bars and stem, Cyclone derailleurs with bar-ends, and a Brooks knock-off saddle.

I rode the heck out of that bike until I was T-boned in the Spring of '85. The insurance company gave me full replacement price for it and told me to keep the bike. My LBS straightened it as best they could and I continued to ride it as a fixie for several more years. :)

Thanks for those posts. I've often wondered where my 85 Espree and my 86 Team lined up. Now I know.

I have this old Fuji, but I don't know what it is. When I got it it had F-Racing Decals all over it. The spec seems older than the mid-seventies/eighties stuff. Any thoughts?

Also I am Looking to buy an EARLY Professional model Complete bike AND Also the "campagnolo" Professional model.

I was just given this bike and I ended up getting it tuned up, new cables, and retaped the bar handles. I know absolutely nothing about cycling but I really want to get into it. I used I think TMAR's formula and I think it's an 85 fuji league? Can any of you guys give me any info on this bike? Thx

To the best of my knowledge, the League was only produced in 1985 and 1986. It was considered a club/entry level racing model and was 5th in the road racing line-up, behind the Professional, Opus III, Team Fuji and Club Fuji. Original cost was $339.95 US for both years. Both years were also identically spec'd with Valite 1769 tubeset, SunTour LePree derailleurs, Sugino RT crankset and Dia-Compe QS-400N brakeset. I would appreciate it if you could submit the serial number for my database.

pretty damn close anyway. anyone have a link to an original catalog ad for this bike? i think its pretty obvious that the original owner upgraded most if not all the components. (shimano 150 brakes and levers, 600 cranks and derailleurs) maybe i'm wrong?

I just received a Fuji del Rey yesterday, looks like it's about an '84, with quad-butted Valite tubing, in almost new condition-- the headbadge still has the protective plastic wrapping on it! Of course, a bike of this caliber, in this condition, cost me a fortune-- I had to shell out $100 for this Craigslist find. :D

And I owe Wahoonc a huge debt of gratitude for picking it up and shipping it for me-- THE BEST packing job I've ever seen!

I just received a Fuji del Rey yesterday, looks like it's about an '84, with quad-butted Valite tubing, in almost new condition-- the headbadge still has the protective plastic wrapping on it! Of course, a bike of this caliber, in this condition, cost me a fortune-- I had to shell out $100 for this Craigslist find. :D

I picked up two identical Del Rey's earlier this week from the original owner. They are definitely 1984's, what with the gold rims and all. Not almost new like yours, but excellent used condition, no rust, only very minor scratches, decals fine, all original components, for $100 total for both. I immediately sold one to a work colleague and am going through the other one now, repacking bearings, tweaking.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well these Del Reys ride, very nice responsive frame, I think the bike is a blast and good looking to boot. After I get done with mine, I'll have to figure out whether to sell it or keep it.

Yeah, it was one heck of a deal, especially for DC area - the seller got swamped w/emails. But again, not nearly new like yours, although quite nice and completely original. They were his/hers for he and his wife, same size even. I blogged it here (http://nihonmaru.blogspot.com/2008/07/tale-of-two-del-reys.html), along with a little info I found out about different year models of the del Rey.

The ONLY thing that didn't last was those brake hoods...

Supreme is not a '70s model.
Did sell the Fuji Pro to a very serious collector from Bisbee, AZ and he now has it on display.
