Road Bike Racing - Anyone use this site to watch races?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

There are lots of italian channels on there... (as well as many other countries) If I only knew what channels carried races in what countries, it could be pretty cool...

I tried to use that site but as you said, I can't figure out who would be carrying races either.

It would be wonderful if some Italian and French speaking individual could browse these stations schedules and tell us when they have coverage.

I might have to check that out

e.g. Germany, but there is no livestream for Eurosport. They show all the races, though.

one of their links from that site "cycling.tv" has a great cycling tv, and you can view highlights from different events.

second vote for cycling.tv ... helps to have a decent braodband connection, but overall the site rocks!

I've used it to watch other European channels, but not bike races, since I came into that channel sometime in November. It's all good.

Well, I guess as our resident Italian speaker, I'll give it a crack.

So far none of the RAI channels have anything listed as far as cycling-only programs for this week. There are nightly sports shows and such, but I didn't see anything dedicated to any particular race. The RAI Sport channel has it's own streaming thread on the page, but there is no listing that I could find for what will be showing on it. If I can find it though, I'll be sure to give a translation. There does look to be plenty of calcio/soccer/football on if anyone is interested in that.

Let us know which channel the Giro will be on. Times would also be cool too!

Be our Giro expert for May, will ya?

Helps to have Windows to because it wont run in Linux :(

Not true. I've gotten it running (with some fuss) at home. I run Gentoo and KDE, and kmplayer is your friend. Very nice plugin capability with Konqueror.

hmm I guess I will have to give it some fussing around then. Any suggestions for Gnome? or can I run than in gnome?

mplayerplug-in (http://mplayerplug-in.sourceforge.net/). kmplayer is just a KDE frontend for mplayer and accomplishes a lot of what mplayerplug-in does within the KDE environment. Whatever you can view in mplayer, you should be able to view in your browser with mplayerplug-in. Haven't tinkered with it much, but this is what folks will probably use with Mozilla to view streaming content on the 'net. Good luck. :)

Just an update. It looks like the Giro will be on daily on Rai Tre starting anytime from 11 to 12:30 Italian time. I'm in the process of looking to see if they have a streaming version online.

Actually...I think this might be what we're looking for.

Rai Sport (Real Player) (mms://fastreal.fastweb.it/raisporthigh)

All I get is little girl gymnastics. IS that just because that is what they are currently broadcasting? If I tune in at 11 Italian time, will I see the Giro? What is 11 Italian time here in the states? So many questions..

LOL. Yeah, that's RAI Sport, and it's just playing whatever is on at the time. I'm not exactly sure that it will be on there, but I'm pretty confident. 11 AM Italian time is 6 AM Eastern (Daylight Savings) Time.

Here is the RAI Tre schedule for the next nine days, which I'm assuming translates to the RAI Sport times for the week. The times are all EDT.

May 3-6
8:10 Rai Sport-Storia del Giro d'Italia (History of the Giro d'Italia - 50 minutes)

May 7
6:30 Rai Sport Reggio Calabria. Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia Si gira (30 minutes)
13:00 Reggio Calabria. Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia Cronoprologo (55 minutes)
15:05 Rai Sport Reggio Calabria. Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia TGiro (20 minutes)
20:05 Rai Sport Reggio Calabria. Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia Giro notte (30 minutes)

May 8
7:40 Rai Sport Reggio Calabria Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia Si Gira (50 minutes)
9:30 Tropea Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia 1^tappa: Reggio Calabria - Tropea (3 hours)
15:00 Rai Sport Tropea Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia T Giro (15 minutes)
20:30 Rai Sport Tropea Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia Giro notte (30 minutes)

May 9
7:25 Rai Sport Catanzaro Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia Si gira (20 minutes)
10:10 Rai Sport Santa Maria del Cedro Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia TGiro (50 minutes)
15:00 Rai Sport Santa Maria del Cedro Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia TGiro (20 minutes recap)
19:50 Rai Sport Santa Maria del Cedro Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia Giro notte (30 minutes)

May 10
7:25 Rai Sport Diamante Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia Si gira (20 minutes)
10:10 Giffoni Vallepiana Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia 3^tappa: Diamante - Giffoni Vallepiana (50 minutes)
15:00 Rai Sport Giffoni Vallepiana Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia TGiro (20 minutes)
19:50 Rai Sport Giffoni Vallepiana Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia Giro notte (30 minutes)

May 11
7:25 Rai Sport Giffoni Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia Si gira (30 minutes)
10:10 Frosinone Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia 4^tappa: Giffoni-Frosinone (50 minutes)
15:00 Rai Sport Frosinone Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia TGiro (15 minutes)
19:55 Rai Sport Frosinone Ciclismo: 88* Giro d'Italia Giro notte (30 minutes)

I'll list more after I figure out if it corresponds to the stream or not. I'm hoping that the RAI Sport channel will show the entire stages, instead of the beginning hour or so, and then the finish for an hour or so as it listed on the guide for RAI Tre. If that's the case, then it will run from the 2nd listed time each day to the end of the 3rd. I'll guess we'll have to keep our fingers crossed. I am confident that the recaps of the Giro will be shown as listed on the stream.

well I just watched a bit of Italy vs Turkey (football) so it
works with Mozilla with no problems, didn't need no plugins.
weird tho, brought up Windows media player and my default is Realplayer.
Hmmmm.
Now All I need to do is mute it (no italian here) run some tunes concurrently
and pretend I'm busy here at work!

Okay, here's a test. If this works the way I think it should, then today around 1:50 or 2:00 PM, there should be a program on the streaming video channel entitled "Waiting for the Giro." If that works then we should be good to go. Everyone hold their breath. :)

Well, it looks like we're good to go...although my times were off.

There's mountain biking on right now 11:00AM, and the Giro program should be on at around 1:00PM. I'll update the times as I figure out how I messed them up.

I created a sticky in the Road bike Racing forum. Jaco, if you could be so good to keep it up and let us know if there are changes or something we missed, that would be really kind of you.

For those of you using Linux, all you need is the wm32codecs package, as it will give you all the codecs you're missing.

Otherwise, realplayer for linux works just fine...

And with mencoder, you can save the stream for later playback or transcoding.
