I thinking of getting serious with a club, but wanting to know the basics of how to go about it, knowing the simple things. One club in my area asks that you be able to go at least 17-21 mph. I can do that on the flats and some hills, not into a stiff wind - this is riding just on my own. Do clubs have jerseys for their club, what should I expect from a serious club. Also, how do the racers here train, by themselves or from within their sponsored groups - how many miles per week? thanks

You know, Nikos, every club is different. Some, like the Beaconsfield Cycling Club in my neighbourhood, are very big and bureaucratic, and have all soprts of rules a procedures... but are very well organized.

Some, like my club, which is sort of an anti-club-club [The Irregular Cycling Club], are basically anarchic formations of guys who like to ride together and hang together and put the hurt on each other on weekend and afternoon rides. [We have a Web site... we have a logo... we don't have no stinkin' rulebook!]

And then there are all the ones between those poles. Some have jerseys, some don't. Just find a group of people you feel comfortable with.
