I need to replace my Specialized Hard Rock that was stolen from behind a latched 6' privacy fence last Sunday (along with my kids mountain bikes). I like the Specialized but right now it looks like I can get more for around $500 from Performance Bicycles in the Giant model (Hayes disc brakes, Shimano Deore, etc.) I usually research something like this to death and I really don't know anything about the disc brake gig, but I'd like to get something tomorrow so I can ride tomorrow afternoon. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I like giant bikes, but from what I've been seeing lately for the price you can find a better bike. check out the gary fisher marlin, or go back with the specialized, I personally have never dealt with them, but if there's one thing I gathered from these boards it's that the people here frickin' love specialized.

I do like my specialized bike, but I don't really have any brand loyalty... If a bike looks good, has good parts, a good frame, and feels nice to ride, it's all good.
