Many years ago, I met a wonderful old man who was in his 70's and had just returned home to Texas from Germany. He had just spent the better part of 2 months on 2 rides all across Germany and Switzerland. I don't know what kind of bike he owned, but it weathered the overseas adventure quite well and he continued to ride everyday for the 3 years I knew him. (i moved away) He absolutely glowed with vigor and enthusiasm, and I believe it was in large part due to his love for bicycling.

Now I'm the one getting older (54 this year) and have been bitten by the biking bug. I'm sure I'll benefit from visiting this forum and getting to know some of you.

Hi there newbie, I am pretty new (and older too!) in Ontario, Canada, but your story of the older man reminds me of a very good friend in Missouri who rides every weekend on the Katy Trail. He likes to say he is "older than dirt" but I happen to know he is a contemporary of the man in your story. He regularly passes young guys on the trail and leaves them behind! And although we have not met in person, I would like to bet he is just as hale and hearty!
