Msngr has done a lot to organize group rides in nyc, and it looks like there are frequent rides in boston and sf, but I don't see anything going on in dc despite the kajillions of fixies I see on the streets. When my knee doesn't protest too much, I like to go on rides out to MD and VA on the weekends. Sometimes Beach Drive, sometimes W&OD. See the recent thread about what to do in DC for route ideas. There are lots of great routes that allow for relaxed group riding. I'm not particularly interested in a race-like group ride: mostly because I couldn't keep up, but also because I suspect it would attract a smaller group.
If there's any interest, we could start this weekend. Saturday or sunday, I don't care. We could do 20 miles, or we could do 50 miles, but Beach Drive would probably be nice this weekend, maybe out to ~rockville and back. I prefer noonish departures. Anyone?
