Mountain Biking - WTB Dual Duty FR Wheel Set

What kind of performance could I expect from this wheelset if it were to be used for XC? I was comparing weight to the Rhynolite and these only weigh 40g's more. The actual rims that is.

I can only buy the front one as of right now and it's on special. So I'd probably get a rhyno lite on the rear or something else. Also I notice it has that 20mm thru axle possibility thing. Do you need a free ride fork to run this wheel set?

They are fairly light weight. But in reality are a heavy duty rim. So they should be stronger (little heavier) than less impact based rim. In my mind they aren't proven either...soooo...wanna try them out and tell me how they work?...

I actually just bought that other front wheel on the sun s rim...just purchased 900$ worth of stuff from him :)

Ive been running them for 2yrs on my trail bike and there tough as nails. They've taken a lot of 3 to 5 footers and rocky rooty single track with no problems. I had to have the rear trued one time from an urban riding incident.As far as XC, I trail ride mine all the time with Minion dh tires and there a little heavy but not bad at all.Hope this helps you out.

Without really knowing specifics about the wheelset, would you recommend it? Disregard the price though and look at MSRP for that, so the opinion is less biased.


XC looks like it'll probably be ok. Between their XC wheelset and this one there's a 185g difference. And I can guarantee the "Strong Strong" rims I have on mine are over 1100g.


Why are they so cheap though Mael? Looks slightly suspicious to me as it is such a ridiculous deal. Possible typo at $56 when it should be $156?
So if I order them, I need to verify that they have the 100mm QR? I hope they do, but I'm worried because they say DISK in the header.

Do you also know how much shipping is for a SET to the east coast? For one wheel set, it's $22 but I'm looking at that XT RHynolite set too.

Also, what's the thinnest tire I can put on this bad boy in case I want to put slicks on some of the time for road riding? It says 30mm thickness.

David tends to get great deals. He likely has 5 or 6 in stock. Its his thing. Likely selling oem parts or maybe demo parts given to him by manufacturers.

I would recommend it. The hubs are pretty well known and the rims look good.

As for shipping, fill out the form and check the shipping costs. You best bet. I have two huge boxes being shipped to whistler for 10$

No clue. I never go narrow on tires.

Thanks Mael and mtnbiker, the shipping calculator never works on wheelsets, possibly because the weight is set at 0.00lbs for them. I think for oversize items you need to call.

Why is there such a lack of information on these things anyway? Same goes with Sun Ringle and their rims site, I guess there's not much to say though eh.

Sorry to kinda hijack the thread, but Im leaning towards some WTB LaserDisc DHs. I read the reviews on mtbr and it looks ok. My friend at the shop recommends them. Anyone here have them?

I also like the Halo Combat white wheels, which I hear are super strong, and they are way cheaper. They weigh 50% more than the laserdiscs though.

Anyone used these wheels? I can also get Dual Dutys for a little cheaper, but they are heavier and I dont know how strong they are compared to the Laserdiscs.

What about sun single tracks? Or whatever the ones are that the bighit and stuff uses.

Single tracks are ok. They have lasted through a lot of abuse under me on my bighit.

Dirtbike, the halos are solid wheels, at a great price, they compete with the best over here, they give the D521's a good runfor their money, and i was considering getting a set but vouched for a set of double tracks...

Great rim if your on a budget though!

I had a set and my gf still uses hers. For aggressive riding they just don't hold up...and they are too heavy for xc racing. They are perfect oem rim.
