General Cycling Discussion - Bah what do you do with cool mornings?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I hate rides that always start at 9am. I usually have to wake up about 2 hours-2.5 hours to get to the start point on time. I read the days forecast and it is around 20degrees (hot). When I leave it is always hitting the days low.

Should I brave it with a short sleeved jersey or wear a small jacket? Either way compromises one of the trips out or back.

BLAH. :(

Armwarmers. When it gets too hot take them off, roll them up and stick them in your jersey pockets

Layers, close to my skin. I think there's nothing worse than being cold.
My top layer is a wind breaker.
I haven't really had a warm morning yet to ride.
I think I've forgot what it's like.

Or you could find a reason to stay in bed. ;)

I'm OK as long as I can keep my ears warm.

I sleep. I refuse to ride in the mornings except possible to work. Even then I would walk.

All of my worst injuries occured because I tried riding before I had coffee breakfast and didn't sleep until I was ready to wake up (working afternoons that means later than 9am haha)

Yeah, I hate rides that start at 9:00 am too .... the day is half over!! If you're going to start a ride, it should start at either about 6:00 am or 6:00 pm.

20 degrees isn't that warm ... I'm still pretty chilly at that temp. If it were me, I'd start with a long-sleeved jersey (or arm warmers) AND a light jacket, and if it did warm up, I'd just tuck the jacket into my Carradice.

Machka,

20degrees c is pretty dang warm, you're from midwest canada aren't you? :) But really operator, you are from TO, if you find 20 degree hot how will you ever survive the summer where temps with humidity hit 45 at any given day?

Hot as in, hot with a jacket on :D
I'll go pick up some arm warmers. I only got totally warmed up AFTER the ride, i.e at 2pm ... hah.

On the way back at nathan phillips square I almost fell over becuase these pedestrians just boxed me in. Had to grab onto someguys backpack and clip out.

I felt bad, he must've thought I was trying to rob him or somethign :/ Apologized profusely though.

Ride starts at 9 am? Wow, you Canadians are laid back! (eh?!)

On rides where the "guts" of the ride are going to be a lot warmer than the start, I wear a lightweight fleece sweatshirt over my jersey and take it off when it starts to get warm. On rides where the temp is going to vary a lot (e.g. big climbs followed by big descents), I wear a wicking layer under my jersey and just leave it at that.

dude...I'm asleep...otherwise I brave it. I can wear a shirt down to about 40 degrees as long as I'm moving.

I sleep.

I work weird hours, a flex shift 1pm-9pm, so my sleep schedule is all funktastic...I never see a sunrise, I just wake up once the sun gets to my point in the window.

also on that note, i do lots of night riding due to this.

I'm cold when I ride. I get teased about the amount of clothing I wear at temps others consider warm. I'm still in a jacket and tights at 20C. I don't start really warming up out there until the temperatures get into the 30s.

Not all of us! There have been many organized rides I've been on that have started between 4:00 am and 6:00 am.

I just pedal faster :D

Failing that, I wear wool or at least full fingered gloves, a long sleeve tee under my bike jersey and I put on a pair of long socks pulled alllll the way up. If it's really cold I'll just wear pants and a jumper and maybe a ski mask. The ski mask is really good at getting cagers to keep their distance...I wonder why?! ? ;)
Maybe this will help too:
