I'm not Filipino, but I was in Makati a couple months ago on vacation. I give you a lot of credit for riding in Manila. I was afraid to even walk across the street. I saw one cyclist while I was there. Where are the bike shops around Metro Manila? My g'friend will be there again soon and I want her to pick me up a jersey. Does San Miguel Beer have any jerseys?

i don't think there are any san mig jerseys available but i'll ask around keep an eye out for you. makati is actually a nice place to bike in but only on sundays. there are other nice places to bike like around mall of asia on weekends and early in the morning. there's plenty of space during those times but no trees. tagaytay (around 70km from manila) is a popular destination to bike although its a long steady climb.

bike shops: the more popular ones are located in cartimar in pasay city (about 10 to 15 minutes east of makati). you can find low to high end stuff there. another place would be quiapo BUT i wouldn't recommend going to that place unless you know of a local who can bring you there. the prices are a little cheaper but not really worth the hassle unless you live or pass by the area often.

some of the bike shops that you see in the makati malls are not really that dedicated to bikes. they're just there to sell. cartimar is a good place to go. christie's, velocity and beng's are the shop names that comes to mind. there's also performance bike shop although i don't know if its still there. all of those have low to high end stuff from almost all brands.

central rider: i got to visit cartimar today and unfortunately none of the shops i looked at (4) had any san miguel jerseys. all the had was the smart and casino filipino team jerseys. shop names are christie's bike shop, the bike room (owned by beng, christie's sister), ballistic, ross cycles and velocity (it was closed today i don't know why) tell her to go there on a week day when there's not much people it can get hectic on a weekend starting on fridays and right after paydays (15th and 30th of the month).

Salamat. She's going next month so I told her to go to Cartimar, she knew where I was talking about. I want her to pick up a jersey, P.I. themed of some sorts. I'm sure she'll find something. Laters, C_R.

If your friend can't find any san mig or P.I. themed jersey, you can request the store owner to ask the jersey supplier to make one for you. Personalized....you will have to add a little to the price....just my opinion...

Thanks for the suggestions. She'll only be there a few days. I'm sure they can't get it done that soon. No big deal. I'm sure she'll find a jersey for me.

Hello,

I've messaged headless about this, but as he suggested, maybe someone here will be able to help me.

I will be travelling SE Asia in 2008, and will be in the Philippines beginning of 2008.

I plan on doing some bicycle touring (not necessarily in Philippines though), but since it will be my homebase while travelling through asia... I'm wondering...

does anyone know if they sell folding bikes in Phil? And if so, how much, what type. I'm looking for Dahon's, Brompton's or any copies... ie. Merc....

I heard from headless that they sell the lower end ones... but so far, I'm not sure if they are worth it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks...

Every April for the past eight years, the Firefly Brigade have been mobilizing people to celebrate cleaner air initiatives via a leisurely bicycle ride around Metro Manila dubbed Tour of the Fireflies (ToF). The ToF is a 50-kilometer bicycle ride around Metro Manila at an easy, controlled pace that allows anyone who can ride a bike to participate and have fun. The cyclists don colorful, environment- themed costumes while pedaling at approximately 12-15 kilometers per hour through at least six cities. The main objective of the event is to raise public awareness about the health and environmental dangers of air pollution.

The theme this year is CYCLE FOR CLEAN ENVIRONMENT and is a celebration of initiatives for sustainable transportation and environmental protection. This is in synergy with international Earthday efforts which makes the ToF a perfect Earth Day event. Our major partner is the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

The Tour will passthrough the cities of Pasig , Taguig, Makati , Pasay , Manila and Quezon City . Start and end venue will be at the Tiendesitas where a morning and afternoon program will be staged.

Prizes for Best costumed participants, largest contingent, oldest and youngest riders are at stake.

For other details, please log on to: www.fireflybrigade.org or call (+632) 9220368

All about mountain bike

Hi there.

I am a newbie in this forum.
Glad to read all your posts.
I am a rookie of mountain biking but i travelled almost 9 towns here in Cavite.
I am from Dasmarinas and Tagaytay is a nice place to be with mountain biking.

Does any of you (esp. headlessspider) knows any plan of tour here in Cavite?

Prompt reply is highly appreciated.

Thanks.

well, there's none that i know of. what i do know is that roadies often go to cavite via the daang hari road and the ones going to and from tagaytay. although it would be intersting to go through the back roads of cavite.

there's actually a nice one from general trias to carmona -- if i remember correctly.

Are there any places online that sell Asian specific team cycling jerseys? We hope to go to the Phillipines in a couple of years but I don't want to wait that long. I'd like to get either a Pinoy or Chinese jersey since I'm half/half. (or as my Pinay wife calls me: banana. Yellow on the outside, white on the inside! Doh!)

Thanks!

hi all,

I was born in the Philippines, but moved to Canada and am now living in the States, but I still go back every couple of years to see relatives and be tempted with lures of moving back home.

I've been a fairly dedicated cyclist for the past few years and lately have gotten into randonneuring (basically non-competitive ultra-distance endurance cycling). On 24 August, I hope to become the first Filipino to ride and complete Paris-Brest-Paris, the world's oldest active bike ride. I realize that it's a bit late to be asking this question, but does anyone have leads being able to pick up a Pinoy themed jersey so I can adequately represent my homeland? I'm already planning on sewing on a Philippine flag patch to my saddle bag, but was hoping for something more visible.

Hello... if you are near San Francisco, I have a short sleeve version of this jersey; it's XL (I'm 5'8", 180 lbs, and it's kinda tight)... pm if interested

thanks, Jesus, but unfortunately, I'm in New England, as far from San Francisco as one can get in the Lower 48. It's a pity, because I think it might have fit (5'10, 170lbs.)
