Crikey! Judging by the email email I just received the host of "Big Brother" in Italy is obviously selected for her insightful commentary - and her wardrobe of dresses that would make US TV producers run for cover!

Nah, I only use that thing to see how much of a poof I've been after a ride. I swear rides got harder after I got it. And you should see my diet! I hate to see the insides of my arteries.

[edit] Actually I've been freaking out about blood pumpers recently. I was reading up on Aortic_dissection today. Is that when you have Akermanis playing for you? (Who by the way is a keen bike rider and and has started racing crits in QLD in the AFL off season)

So Thylacine, what did you do at work this week? Well, I drew up a shˇtload of helmets, then I invented pretty colours to go on them.

    Ah, the glamour.

No way Der Jan will race for Discovery. I mean, I know they're all a bunch of hacks unless they have someone to ride for and everything, but Jan is just too.....Jan-y.

Couldn't possibly abandon my team even if Akers was playing for them, been a supporter since I was 9 years old.

Wasn't there an article about him and cycling in an issue of "Ride" or was it "Bicycling Australia" earlier this year?

And while we're on the topic - has anything happened to "Ride" magazine? There doesn't seem to be a Winter issue (at least it isn't in either of the two newsagents in our local Westfield) or do they never have a Winter issue and produce a souvenir TdF issue each year instead?

Winter edition of Ride mag is out now. Giro special with pink jersey pic on the front. Saw it in the newsagents on the weekend....and my subscription copy arrived in the mail on Tuesday
I live in hope that, being a loyal subscriber, one day my copy will arrive before the mag hits the shelves for everyone else.

    BTW. Nice helmets Thylo

That's a bike that my mate and I designed about 10 years ago. I think he ended up making about 10 of those. Ancient history now though.

My aggregate cholestrol level has been >7.5mmol/l since I was a teenager. So has my dad's, and he's nearly 80. We're just very efficient at both absorbing and making the stuff. The thing is that the balance of LDL to HDL is decent. When my doctor asks if I've had a lipid count recently I can only laugh and ask him to get over it.

Went fer a ride up le 'nongs this arvo and bumped into our C grade 'machine' (he's off to B grade soon cos C grade's getting sick of being lapped by him) at the bottom. I asked him about the TT and he said that yep, it's rolling hills and his last effort there was 44 min. He reckoned our club TT nutters went around 36 min.
Contrary to popular belief, the plural of 'anecdote' is not 'fact'.

Must have oversimplified things I guess

But really, there's a ****load of things going on during the warmup that Hoggy put in cyclingnews.

The first 15 minutes at E1 gets the working muscles preloaded with oxygenated blood and puts a little bit of heat into them. The E2 work is done in a comfortable sub AT range that triggers hormones (they're the messengers of the body) that prepare the body for flight. They trigger the cardiovascular system to seek out its optimum oxygen transfer, redirect bloodflow away from things like digestion to critical sytems and the working muscles, open sweat glands for cooling, and most importantly instruct the working muscles to burn glycogen and oxygen aerobically. The E3 stint triggers another hormonal change that sees the muscles adapt to burning fuel in mild oxygen debt. Essentially lactic acid is converted to a usable source of energy (yes lactic acid is a good thing) to supplement glycogen burn that can't be satisfied in the reduced amount of oxygen in the blood. Then the last stint at E1 is used to allow waste products to be purged from the muscle tissue via the bloodstream and reoxygenate the blood and muscles. Once you step off the bike after a warmup like that one the effects will last for up to 15 minutes.

Now imagine trying to get the body tuned up like that starting from cold. It's doable, for sure, if you can hide in the bunch for a while but not much fun if someone who's warmed up properly hammers it off the line or if you're running solo. Mucho Oucho, Amen!

I'm about to order some XT cranks probably from Torpedo7 although they dont list if it includes the external BB shell thingy...? hmmmm will need to check.
I really want XTR but you've put me off with the whole BCD thing. Middleburn make an adapter but

They list a build kit including dual control shifters, discs and reare de-rail, dont suppose you're on the look-out for anything?

Oh, that's the mini kit in the specials section huh. It should come with the BB bearings, don't see why it shouldn't.

Middleburn cranks on the CRC website are super cheap, cheaper than AU wholesale, however they're coming out with an 'integrated' design as I understand it which should be stiffer than the older ISIS version which is what I'd be waiting for if the XTs weren't blingy enought for ya.
