a castle or Windhoek lager if I could find em, and no I don't like american
beer, and I don't like my beer warm (bloody poms).

mmmm I got pissed on stella (and bourbon) one night. Bad idea, I threw up everywhere, haven't been able to drink it since. Which is ok because its so exxy.

Favourite beer at the moment...Little Creatures Pale Ale.
Its from Western Australia so I dont think you can get it Lotek.
Worth checking out if you can.

It goes back to Jan....after a leg workout, I was really stiff and sore in the lower back for at least a week. Normally subsided after 2-3 days. Of course, did nothing about it.

Never really felt right since....but over the last 2-3 months (with constant badgering from her indoors) eventually got around to some physio/chiro (didn't really do much) and the pain was becoming constant and I was walking on a tilt. Was VERY sore through the hip/knee/ankle in the mornings, some days couldn't even sit on the toilet. Pretty depressing.

Bit the bullet....went to the neurosurgeon (squeezed me in...normally a 2 month wait) with a CT scan in hand. Sent me off for an MRI....came back with that, diagnosed bulging disc at L4/5 causing all my problems Sent me off with home traction kit as treatment with f/u appoint. booked for a month

2 weeks later, collapsed in agony making brekky on a Monday morning (World Cup final was on TV) screaming for an amublance to the missus. Long story short, she's in tears freaking out, I'm on the floor unable to move for 2 hours while my GP father in law comes over and fills me up on muscle relaxants and painkillers. Managed to get to the shower, pull on some trackies and a t-shirt and get into bed for the day.

Epidural under a flouroscopy and local anaesthetic was the next morning, right as rain since.

Was pretty scary there for a while.

sorry....should've said all my symptoms were left leg only.

Apparently, some people get the epidural done and never have to go back. Others may have one in 1 year, 5 years etc. 75% of patients experience significant pain relief.....I'd say I'm well ahead of that curve. The next step is surgical removal of offending disc, that's a last resort.

Gotta be a bit sensible....the deadlifts are out for the foreseeable future. Any squatting I'm to wear my back brace AND a weight belt. The rest of my workouts are relatively unaffected....I'm just glad to be back in the gym, rather than doing one or two abridged workouts a fortnight.


The fact that I've had such excellent results apparently bode well for the future.


If I see the Tafi-replica Cervelo on Beach Rd I'm gonna chase you down and bore you to tears with back stories...

Pisser....I could've asked "What sport is that?" and she'd go "AFL??"......if I wasn't curled up in the foetal position in my Peter Alexanders with a 1/2 finished bowl of Uncle Tobys finest on the kitchen bench.


Damn that was painful....was telling a mate here at work that I've fallen off bikes at speeds of 0kmh to 70kmh....not one of them came close to that.

Neuro said it would've been the transition from what passed for my old version of "sitting" [left leg out ramrod straight, rest of body trying to morph onto couch] to standing that did the damage. Then he launched into horror stories about patients who went into full cauda equina syndrome [Wikipedia THAT for some tasty lunchtime reading] bending to pick up a bit of paper....thanks doc.

Karl Menzies is getting some good results over there in the US. I remember seeing him ride the Lygon St stage of the HeraldSun Tour a couple of years ago when he got brought into a team as a last minute replacement. And then proceed to rip everyone's legs off!!
