Electra Townie rear rack suggestions

I have a 21d townie and I'm not in love with the available rear rack from electra. Has anyone used anything else? I'd prefer it to have a mounting bracket on the rear for a dynamo powered rear light. I also don't want to modify a rack. Hopefully there is another option.

This one looked promising: http://bontrager.com/model/09592 as long as the mounting struts are long enough.

I want to be able to mount panniers and a trunk rack.

You will find a wide selection of racks at nashbar.com.

Try a serfas brand rack https://www.serfas.com/

I ended up with the bontrager deluxe rack, size small. Fits great for both trunk rack and panniers. Even a couple LBS's I went to said I had to have the electra rack.

I also found that specialized sells extra long struts to help when that is needed for fit, but they seemed heavier than my entire rack.

Why not post a picture?

Because of the increased distance from the seat post-seat stays and rear dropouts, universal racks won't fit. You have to use extended brackets or find some extra brackets and put two together. Either way it does not make a good looking installation. The Electra rack is a good rack, looks good and is strong. They are more expensive.

Also, the Electra rack is 14 1/2 inches long vs the 12-13" for the universal racks. I used a Sun bag on my rack. It works great, just a little rack hanging out the back behind the bag. The Electra bags are $60 and the rack is $60, which is a little much to me.

I think the Electra racks suit the curvy lines of their bikes better, kind of like they were meant to go together. Hey wait a minute!

I think mine looks rather sweet on my Sawyer.:D

I don't see the issue with the Electra rack, but clearance is tight for a trunk bag due to the bottom of the rear seat.
Seat tube clamps that act as a front anchor point for the rack, (rather than the OEM holes) are widely available if you need them.
Topeak makes Explorer racks that accept panniers & a removable trunk bag. I use the Explorer with spring on my cruiser with a MTX DX removable trunk bag.
I no longer use panniers, I prefer a trunk bag & a front basket, both removable. I'd rather have rear baskets than panniers.
Reasonably priced bags are floppy, disheveled & often ugly after a bit of use.

That's great that you got what you wanted. Can you post some pictures?

When I tried initially it said I needed 50 posts before I could upload a photo. When I get there I'll post.

Rack is still working great.

Post a link to your photos & I'll post them

That looks good. Nice bike.

Thanks for the tip, I guess I will stick with getting an Electra rack instead of something cheaper.
