Do you guys ever actually ride on the beach?

I got a Trek Farley fat tire bike and have been doing a lot of beach riding - very peaceful
so I'm wanting to hear from other beach riders. Best ride for me was 18 miles from Stearns wharf to Ellwood
on the beach at Santa Barbara. I've had to start paying a lot of attention to low tides etc.
So far the biggest problem has been rocks that force me out into the water. Messes up my bike and I had to replace some parts due to salt corrosion.

Sometimes at low tide in the off season. We typically ride along Pleasure Island on the NC coast. Our beach bikes are old no name cruisers that get hosed off and kept heavily oiled.

Fat Bikes are Great for that .. We have Clammers riding the Beach with their tools at, Low (clam) tide, Looking for the Tasty BiValve.

OR and Long Beach WA.. though OR beaches are Publicly Owned. WA property lines go down to the Water.

Not on the sand, but on the bikepath/MUP between the sand and the parking lots along the beaches in north Orange County (California).
    Are we having fun yet?

Of course! I'm in Charleston, SC and take mine out occasionally. I think I'm about done for the year though, too cold now.

Hey there neighbor! I typically stick to the bike trails around here for the reasons of sand and salt, however, if I had a decent beater the beach cruise sounds appealing. Might have to start searching on craigs for said beater

Thanks for the replies guys. I did a 36 miler on the beach Saturday from Stearns wharf to Elwood and back at low tide.
What a lot of fun. Unfortunately the low tide is the only time I can go so it limits my beach riding to the days around the full moon and the new moon.

only with a junk bike! Even then I wash it off and oil the hell out of it. when you live 40 minutes from the beach you kind of forget that it is even there to go ride at.

yeah I have trouble if I let the bike get sea water on it. Today is endless rain so no bike riding.

Ok sounds good .. the next chance is the low tide around the new moon on Dec 21. That's a Sunday. I usually go slow so need like 4
or 5 hours for the 36 miles. Saturday Dec 20 is also a possibility. Probably start sometime around 11 AM. This time I'll bring lots of water since
I ran out halfway through last time.

I have ridden on the beach for years. I just check the tides and ride only at low tide on the hard packed sand and not in the water. You have to push the bike thru the soft sand to get to the hard packed sand. Last beach ride was from Patrick AFB to Port Canaveral, about 13 miles. I live about 6 miles from the Atlantic Ocean and about 10 miles from Port Canaveral. I always wash off the bike after a beach ride.
    Enjoy
    Em

Hmm I went on a beach ride today. The recent storms washed away so much sand that the underlying bedrocks are exposed. I could only go half a mile before I just gave up. Not sure how long the ocean takes to move sand back after a storm.
I'll try another ride in tow weeks on the full moon.

That's ok I've been really sick with flu since Jan 2. I need time to recover so looking at the calendar Sunday Feb 15 would be doable.
