I've been happy with my Kent Del Rio:

www.bigboxbikes.com ? View topic - KENT DEL RIO BEACH CRUISER..

However, they no longer spec them with linear pull brakes and I think the stock brakes are a requirement to replace even if you don't load yours with groceries like me...

I'd encourage trying out a bike without coaster brakes. If an 8 yr old kid can master hand brakes in an afternoon, your wife can do it too. Upright is ok, or if you do drops, also consider interrupter brakes.

I think there are a few 3 speed coaster brake bikes, if you hunt, or perhaps build your own.

However, are you planning on riding with your wife? For more than a mile? When I was younger, we did the occasional 50 to 100 mile rides with my mother. She was always a little weaker than my father, and perhaps even weaker than the kids. It became obvious that it didn't work for her to ride a "junker" while everyone else rode nice racing bikes.

Wow, nice looking bikes. We're going to test ride the Electra Townie this weekend.
They're pricie, but the big seat and low riding position may work ???

My wife just got a townie, and loves it. She was concerned about gears, and handbrakes, but figured it out pretty quick.

Mark then take her out to try bikes and ride them. I can almost promise if you pick one she will not like or ride it. Roger

You opened up a 5 year old post, and responded to a person who's never returned to the forums? You must really be feeling the boredom with the Covid lockdowns.
