Installing new cables SRAM MRX grip shift

I am replacing shift cables on my wife's bike. I replaced the rear shift cable no issues. But the front just won't thread through. Anyone have experience with these MRX grip twist shifters? I read the manual. I lined up with #1 on the shifter and I can see the hole and I can feel the cable go into the hole but no matter what I can only get it about half an inch in. I tried moving the shifter slightly past the 1 in each directing, I tried angling down toward the exit hole but I can't get it to go through

well I figured out the trick in case anyone needs to know . After inserting cable into the hole, I had to push the outer grey housing opposite to the barrel adjusters and that managed to push the cable from inside through the hole. Once I pressed there it went in no problem. Obviously that is not part of SRAM's install instructions but it sure worked

Thank you for posting this! I've always disassembled the MRX to replace a cable (requires removal from the handlebars). I'll try your tip next time.
