Dura Ace SL-7402 downtube shifter comparability
was wondering if older Dura Ace SL 7402 8 speed downtube shifters would be compatible with my old set of shimano 1056 8 speed dérailleurs in terms of STI shifting? I'm having a tough time finding a set of 8 speed 105 shifters to replace my current faulty set. Thanks

They'll work just fine if and only if you use a 9-speed cassette, OR a DA7400 RD. DA7400 8-speed shifters pull the same amount of cable as all Shimano 9 speed shifters. The DA7400 RD is matched with those shifters. See: Shimano Dura-Ace Compatibility
Alternately, you can get new Tiagra 8-speed downtube shifters, Ultegra 8-speed bar-end shifters, or Claris STI. Fortunately there are still options for us 8-speed users.
