Using a Non Shifting STI Shifter as a Brake Lever Only?

I am looking to go from non aero brake levers to aero brake levers on my bike. I have an STI shifter that doesn't shift due to a bike wreck a couple years back and it is sitting around in the garage. I have bar end shifters so shifting is taken care of. Could I use the STI shifter as a brake lever only?

Just don't install the shift cable. The shifter will be somewhat heavier than a brake-only lever, but you may not notice.

Why not sell the inoperative brifters (eBay Buyers will snap them up for parts or to try to repair), and buy a set of aero brake levers? You will save one pound or more of dead weight (while improving the center of gravity on the bike), and a set or aero levers will cost you less than the amount of money that you would get from selling the inoperative brifters.

IMHO they are much uglier than a nice set of Aero levers.
