1989 Schwinn (Neu Citi) ashtabula BB size?

I am looking to overhaul the BB on my 1989 Schwinn Neu-Citi commuter, and am wondering if I need #64 or #66 bearing retainers.

Sheldon Brown and others note that "older Schwinn and Mongoose" use the 28TPI/#64 retainer sizing, and I've seen people claim 1946-1980 as the 28TPI years... but does anyone know if that would apply to a 1989 Schwinn? Or did they change over to the 24TPI standard once manufacturing shifted to Taiwan?

I suspect that any late 80s/early 90s Schwinns with one piece cranks would use the same size...

Just trying to save myself a few bucks by not having to order two sizes of bearings. Last time I did this, about a year ago, I used loose balls and it was a NIGHTMARE installation. Never again. The most obnoxious 4 hours of greasy fumbling in recent memory.

For the record, I managed to find the original bearings. They are #64 (9x5/16" balls).

I believe the Tange BR-12 are the highest quality retainers available that are a direct replacement for the original Schwinn and other standard #64 OPC bottom bracket bearing retainers, the difference is they have 12 balls instead of only 9: Tange BR 12 BMX Bottom Bracket Bearings New Vintage NIB | eBay

I learned this from a previous post by @dddd (thanks!) and can confirm they fit perfectly.
