Front gears not shifting properly on mountain bike
I'm quite a noob, but I need help with this. Every single time I attempt to shift down to 1 on the front derallieur and climb, it doesn't shift and makes a ripping sound. How can I fix this?

if nothing is broken, you can cure your issue with a cable tension adjustment or derailleur adjustment...
you can view the link provided above or go to youtube and check out videos there.

I could teach a chimpanzee to adjust a rear derailleur but fronts are trickier. Be honest now, how many people have fooled around with your derailleur trying to get it to work? Every front derailleur adjustment can affect other adjustments so, once it's screwed up, there is a tendency to pile one mis-adjustment onto past mis-adjustments which only makes it worse.
Usually the solution is to pretend you are installing the derailleur for the very first time. Go to the Park tool website. find the section on installing a front derailleur. Disconnect your shift cable and follow the Park tool instructions from the very beginning - positioning the derailleur on the seat post. Do the steps in order and don't skip any.

Before you try ALL of that. I would find the screw labeled L on your front derailleur and loosen it a half turn (ONLY A HALF TURN). If that helps. Leave it alone. Otherwise you'll need a derailleur adjustment.
