3x9 shimano grip shift adjustment
Hi all, Thanks in advance for any tips you can give me...
I mistakenly disconnected my rear derailleur cable. The bike was shifting fine beforehand. It is a 3x9 Shimano Deore system with grip shift. I reattached the cable and fiddled with the barrel adjusters until I got it shifting pretty well again through the entire midrange. The problem now is that it is a click off. It goes into the highest (smallest) cog on indicator 8 with 9 a dead click. On the other end, it won't shift into the lowest (largest) cog.
Words of wisdom? Do I need to start with the H and L screws. As stated above, it was shifting fine before I disconnected the cable so I think the screws are ok. Did I not get the cable tight enough when I reattached it?
Thanks again.

Don't mess with the high and low limit screws. Shift the chain to the small cog, move the shifter all the way to the last position, loosen the cable, pull it taut, then tighten the cable attachment. Make fine adjustments with the barrel adjusters.

Thanks, Jeff. I'll give it a go tomorrow when I get home from my commute ride.

The H & L screws just prevent the chain from going off either end of the cassette!
They obviously worked fine before, so why would they need to be adjusted?
Just confine your repairs to "undoing" things you've done, not compounding the problem.
