Stem faceplate bolt is bent help please :)
Hi! my first post and im in a bit of a pickle,
I tried lowering my handlebars on my Roux Conquest 3500 and all was well until i tried to put the faceplate back onto the stem and as i was tightening the bolt it moved all over the place and my worst fears were realized. The bolt is bent and the nut it turns into is not centered. What should i do to fix the nut that isnt centered? I can probably find a replacement for the bolt.
I've attached some pictures and hopefully you guys can help.

Replace the bolt at any LBS or hardware store. As far the star nut goes , replace it with a new one or take a bolt and hammer to straighten it . It would sit 15 mm below the top .

It is a topcap bolt. Weird that you bent it. How hard did you tighten it?
I see no damage of consequence. Maybe just use a screwdriver and hammer to gently tap that star nut into a more level position.
Worst case, pay a bike shop a few bucks to remove the star but and install a new one.
That bolt just needs to be tight enough to snug up the headset and stem before you tighten the stem bolts.

well basically the handlebars kept going off center so i thought it might be that bolt, well it wasnt. It was the 2 bolts on the actual stem. the moment when i realised it I felt like an idiot. I'll buy a new bolt in the afternoon and i'll pop over to my local bike shop.

That top cap bolt is not a critical item; once the headset preload is set and the stem bolts tightened it serves no functional purpose. Don't crank it down. Follow this link Servicing Bicycle Headsets and scroll down to the "Adjustment (threadless)" section for instructions.
