Rust on Steerer Tube

been playing around alot lately with different stems and spacer combinations and am noticing a good deal of rust on this fairly new (sept 14) steerer tube of fork - how do I get it off? - do i need to worry?

Some steel wool and oil will take it off. Nothing to worry about.
Put a thin coat of grease on the steerer. Don't put any grease where the stem clamps. Don't wash your bike so much.

i also wouldn't worry about it, but I keep a film of grease on the entire steerer as rust protection, inside and out, including under the stem. I've never has an issue with stem clamp security on steel.
