Help Removing Shimano Brake Levers
Hello everyone!
I've got an older Fuji Sandblaster I'm looking to do some minor repairs on, one repair being to place the handlebars. Before doing so I started checking out how I'd go about removing everything and the only thing that doesn't seem to have a clear way to remove is the brake levers. They are surrounded in a plastic housing with no really clear way to take them off or seam where they would separate. I can stick a small flathead in between to pry back the plastic some but still can't really seem to get a good look in there. Aside from completely breaking the plastic off the of the levers does anyone have any insight on how I should be going about removing these? You can kind of see what I'm talking about in the photo. The only real exposed hardware is this "trap door" looking piece near the grips which you can see as well.
Any help removing these is much appreciated. Thanks!

Just guessing, but remove the cable completely from the brake and pull the handle all the way open and see if there is a screw/allen head
bolt down there that allows loosening of the brake.

What's my process for removing the cable at this point? I've somewhat tried to wiggle the cable to see if there was any give but it didn't seem like it was going anywhere.

Might be little tough to see but this is where I'm at. Without going too far I've screwed the cable slightly out of the handle. I'm unsure if this is going to do the trick because I can still see the end of the cable near the joint of the lever when I squeeze the handle.

NO you have NOT; you have used the adjuster which moved the housing out from the handle - it did NOTHING to the cable on the inside.
To remove these brake handles you MUST remove the cable from the brake lever. You can leave the housing (black thing that goes into the adjuster) alone. Once you have removed the cable from the lever, and pull the lever all the way, down in the bottom you will see a bolt, loosen it just enough so that you can slide the lever off the end of the bars. If you loosen it too far, it will be EXTREMELY difficult to put back together.
