I have an old stonglight crankset that came on an early 70's px-10. I think its a model 63,but I am not certain of this. I want to use it on a singlespeed chopper project thats in the works and I need to know if it uses a standard taper like shimano,or sugino cranks do?
I am going to be using it in an old schwinn crusier frame, and I will be using a bb adapter to use a modern cartridge style BB.or something similar. it would be nice to use the bb thats in the px-10 as it is a nice campy unit and it would be kinda cool to build a chopper with a campy bb. but I dont think the threading would work, unless the px-10 frame was rethreaded at somepoint in its lifetime.
but all thats not real important, cause I can easily get a common BB to fit it ,but I am a little worried about the taper. I wouldnt want to ruin a crank like this by something as simple as that. thanks

Ya know, I dunno, but there are francophiles in the vintage section that could probably tell you the exact cross-sectional area of each millimeter of square taper for any stronglight. Check over there. But expect a little flack for using a classic vintage part on a hot rod...

I wondered weather to ask here or in vintage. I am prepared for the flack, but I cant think of a way to give new life to something as fine as this crankset, that was simply dicarded by someone.

Sheldon has a good article on crank spindle tapers. The angle is always the same, but Shimano and Europe used different end sizes. Try installing your new cranks and note whether they seat properly, flop all the way down without tightening properly, or seat about halfway.
