Wide range 105 options?

I want to build a wide range gearset using 105 (5700) derailleurs.

If I run a double crank, 50-34, can I get the GS 105 derraileur to work on a 11-32 cassette?

The specs seem like I can't, but in real life, will it work?

50 with 11 on the back is 120 inch.
You need that?
I think it will work with the long cage, but I don't have the specs in front of me.
Maybe use 11-28 instead?

If you tell me you use those gears my first reaction...liar.
Sorry, meant 11-32. I'll fix it.

Should work. I'm running a 12-34 and a 48-38-20something on my touring bike (don't have it nearby and can't remember the gearing exactly) and it has no problems. I did have to reverse the b-hanger bolt, though, but I've put about 1,000 miles on it this spring/summer and it's been fine. I'd think the 32 would be fine.

Do you have a 5700 GS or a 5701 GS? EDIT: Sorry, you're buying... make sure to get the RD-5701!

The difference is important because the 5701 has a larger max cog. I run a 12-30 on a RD-5701 SS. The GS version of the RD-5701 can take a 32T.

RD-5701-GS is the one i'm looking to buy. My concern isnt the max size, it's the range, but I'm starting to think it will be just fine.

The max capacity of the RD-5701-GS is 40T, with 50/34 and 11-32 you need 37T capacity. You're good IMHO.

EDIT when running 34-11, you're 1 tooth over the maximum difference of 22T. Should be fine, plus why would you run cross chaining like that?

Thanks for the input. I wouldn't run 34-11, but please forgive the fact that I will likely run 50-34...

I know, I know, but this gearing is going on a bike that doesn't see a lot of hills, and may get a single 50t track crank and lose the front gearing all together.

Right, 50-34 is only a difference of 16T, so that's no problem for capacity.

chain length slack takeup is better when the RD cage is Longer .. so short cage RD may need replacing.

I'm going to run a mid-cage RD. I just hope I can set it up to have enough chain big-big.
